What is truth?
« on: December 27, 2017, 02:18:05 PM »
Hi there,

'What is truth?' - These words of Pilate spoken to our Lord, in John 18:38, are constantly on the lips of mankind, and probably have been throughout the centuries.

President Trump with His use of the words, 'fake news', has added a further layer of suspicion to our minds, and we hear the affairs of this life with a questioning ear, so what is it doing within the realm of faith, where all is unseen?

We are told to speak truth one to another, to constantly bring the truths which comprise our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and keep them before our minds.  Christ Himself is the Truth: the true and living way to God the Father. We are to rejoice in the Truth, and to make it known, in word and action, for it sets men free, and glorifies God. (Eph. 4:15, 21,25; John 8:32)

Would you like to end 2017 and begin 2018 by doing just that, here in this thread.  Recording verses and thoughts which are precious to you, which concern the truth of God, in Christ Jesus.

May this forum be not one of argument but of mutual edification and encouragement, that we may show forth the love of God, in Christ Jesus, to those who visit.

* I will begin by praising God for bringing me out of darkness into His wondrous light.  (John 12:46)

In Christ Jesus
Chris

Hi
Jest a few verse to get us started on what I hope will be a long and edifying thread.

Eph 4:15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

1Pe 1:22  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

1Jn 3:18  My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Truth isthose facts that most accutartely discribe the world or a situation.

So 'fake news' or lies are an attempt to distort how people see the world. The ultimate 'fake news' is the view promoted by atheism.

Hi John
Is this a good description of the world today.

Jer 9:3  And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
Jer 9:4  Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
Jer 9:5  And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
Jer 9:6  Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.

so where will we find the truth.

1Ti 2:7  Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
Psa 12:6  The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

So the word of God is true and we can rely on it and rest in it.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
So what is truth I believe the answer came from our Lords own lips.

.  6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me

The Lord Jesus Christ is the truth everything he said was the truth including everything in the OT it was his spirit that imparted his word to all the writers of the bible.

Love and peace

Anything that proceeds from God, not just words.
God is Spirit,  God is Love.
Be the Spirit led Ambassadors for Christ that you are meant to be.
Your words and actions should produce life not death.
Love never fails.

'Pilate therefore said unto Him,
.. "Art thou a king then?"
Jesus answered,
.. "Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born,
.. and for this cause came I into the world,
.. that I should bear witness unto the truth.
.. Every one that is of the truth heareth My voice."
Pilate saith unto Him,
.. "What is truth?"
And when he had said this,
he went out again unto the Jews,
and saith unto them,
.. "I find in him no fault at all."'

(John 18:37-38)

* Our Lord was born to be King.  However, He came into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Ephesians 4:21 tells us that, ' ... the truth is in Jesus.' Everyone that is of the truth hears His voice.

Praise His Holy Name!

* He is the embodiment of truth.

Hello again,

Pilates words in John 18:38, "What is Truth?" though taking the form of a question, was what we would call a throw away question, not seriously requiring a response, as is proved by the fact that he did not wait to hear a reply.

This is the way that so many people treat the truth concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, isn't it?
