If balaam could not curse the Israerlites, as he was paid to do, did he have the free will to do what he wanted?

If he had to deliver the message/blessings God gave him, then he had no free will.

If Balaam had no freewill, how on earth can he be classed as a false prophet?

2Peter2v1But there were also false prophets among the people, as there will be false teachers among you also, who will stealthily introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master having bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. .........................
.............
15Having forsaken the straight way, they have gone astray, having followed in the way of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wage of unrighteousness.

ie. Balaam prime objective was wealth that Balak promised him if he cursed Israel.

16But he had reproof for his own transgression by a mute donkey; having spoken in a man?s voice, it restrained the madness of the prophet.
The donkey could see the angel of the Lord ahead who was set to kill Balaam, and that was the only reason that Balaam prophesied the truth about Israel!

Jude1v11Woe to them! They have travelled the path of Cain; they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam; they have perished in Korah?s rebellion.

Rev2v14 But I have a few things against you, because some of you hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block before the Israelites so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
Despite prophesying the truth under threat, Balaam then undermined it by teaching Balak how to bring unrighteousness into Israel via fornication etc.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Dave
Don't worry Dave, you're in good company. (Now work out whether that's a compliment or an insult!)

There is a supposed exchange from either Parliament or the US senate where one member has insulted another.

Man, "The honourable member has the brains of an ass!"

Speaker of the house, "The honourable member must withdraw that remark immediately!"

Man, "I apologise Mr Speaker, and I apologise to the honourable member, and agree that he has not got the brains of an ass,
