1 Corinthians 9:22 King James Version (KJV)
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

1 Corinthians 9:22 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

22 With the ?weak? I became ?weak,? in order to win the ?weak.? With all kinds of people I have become all kinds of things, so that in all kinds of circumstances I might save at least some of them.

These are my thoughts.
We need to be who we can so that God may reach us this may mean we reach down into hurts of our past to relate to them.

1 Corinthians 9:26 King James Version (KJV)
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

1 Corinthians 9:26 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

26 So I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air;

We have a goal to run to the goal is the Lord, we should be running after Him.

The prize we are heading for is righteousness and immortality - and it will be awarded to all those who complete the course (II Timothy 4:7,8).
Now we all know where we are heading, and how to get there. And (unlike an athlete) we can be confident about the outcome. But we dare not be complacent - like an athlete, we must put some effort in!

Hi
I think these words from Hebrews 12 sums it up well

.Hebrews 12

 1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (Compare)

 2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God

Love and Peace
