Verses that have thrilled the soul
« on: July 12, 2017, 09:04:16 AM »

'And I will pour upon the house of David,
and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
the spirit of grace and of supplications:
and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for Him,
as one mourneth for his only son,
and shall be in bitterness for Him,
as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.'

(Zechariah 12:10)

Look at the words, 'I', 'Me', and, 'My', and 'Him'.

God is speaking through Jeremiah here, but do you see in the words referring to God's People Israel, 'they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced', that God identifies Himself as, 'God manifest in the flesh', in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who was the One pierced!  Also, then the use of the word, 'Him', when Israel mourns for the One Whom they pierced, in the past tense, which to my mind brings a sense of detachment, as though referring to a former role now fulfilled, by the One God, Who is both Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

* How great is our God! How worthy of all our praise! For He has accomplished all things, it is He that has redeemed us, and He Who keeps us, by His grace.

Praise His Holy Name!

Hi Chris
The following is something that thrilled me when I first read it and realised what it meant.

Isa 53:1  Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
Isa 53:2  For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Isa 53:3  He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Isa 53:6  All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isa 53:7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Isa 53:8  He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Isa 53:9  And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Isa 53:10  Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Isa 53:11  He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Isa 53:12  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

When one considers how far in advance this was written hoe can one fail to believe.

Praise God!

Yes, it is a wonderful, wonderful prophecy.  So perfectly fulfilled in the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Doesn't it just emphasise the lengths that God went to, to give such evidences in advance as to the truth of the testimony of His Son, the witness He bore, and the manner and reason for His death.  How humbling this is, my spirit is on it's knees in worship and praise.

Thank you, my friend for sharing.

Hi Chris
Here's one of my all time favorites.

Corinthians 13

The Supremacy of Love

1    If I speak in the languages of humans and angels but have no love,
      I have become a reverberating gong or a clashing cymbal.

2    If I have the gift of prophecy and can understand all secrets and every form of knowledge,
      and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains but have no love, I am nothing.

3    Even if I give away everything that I have and sacrifice myself, but have no love, I gain nothing.

4    Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited,

5    and she is never rude; she never thinks just of herself or ever gets annoyed. She never is resentful;

6    is never glad with sin; she?s always glad to side with truth, and pleased that truth will win.

7    She bears up under everything; believes the best in all; there is no limit to her hope, and never will she fall.

8    Love never fails. Now if there are prophecies, they will be done away with. If there are languages, they will cease.
      If there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

9    For what we know is incomplete and what we prophesy is incomplete.

10  But when what is complete comes, then what is incomplete will be done away with.

11  When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child.
      When I became a man, I gave up my childish ways.

12  Now we see only an indistinct image in a mirror, but then we will be face to face.
      Now what I know is incomplete, but then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known
.
13  Right now three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love

Hello there,

Reading from Romans 14, on this sleepless night, I have been blessed by verses 7-9,  they are part of a larger line of reasoning, for it begins with the word, 'For', but it was these three verses particularly that blessed me:-

' ... For none of us liveth to himself,
and no man dieth to himself.
For whether we live, we live unto the Lord;
and whether we die, we die unto the Lord:
whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
For to this end Christ -
.. both died,
.... and rose,
...... and revived,
That He might be Lord both of the dead and living.'

* I find this so comforting.

Praise God!

Hi
Another one of my favourites

Job 19:23  Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
Job 19:24  That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!
Job 19:25  For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
Job 19:26  And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
Job 19:27  Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

It made me so happy when I could say these words with Job and know beyond a shadow of a doubt they where 100% true.

Love and Peace

Hi
A few more verses that give me joy

Mat 22:36  Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Mat 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38  This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Heb 10:16  This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Heb 10:17  And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
Heb 10:18  Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Heb 10:19  Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Heb 10:20  By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Heb 10:21  And having an high priest over the house of God;
Heb 10:22  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I do.

Love and Peace
Dave
