1 Corinthians 8:3 King James Version (KJV)
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

1 Corinthians 8:3
NSB 3 But if any man loves God, God knows him.

These are my thoughts.
We can only love God by receiving Christ and by Christ God knows us personally, He can have a fellowship with us that we need.

1 Corinthians 8:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)

1 Corinthians 8:5
NSB 5 There are those called gods in heaven or on earth. There are many gods and many lords.

These are my thoughts.
This world may serve many different thins but we know who God truly is as Christians.

Quote
1 Corinthians 8:5

These are my thoughts.
This world may serve many different thins but we know who God truly is as Christians.

'As concerning therefore
the eating of those things offered to idols
that are offered in sacrifice unto idols,
we know that an idol is nothing in the world,
and that there is none other God but One.

For though there be that are called gods,
whether in heaven or in earth,
(as there be gods many and Lord's many) ... But ...'

(1Cor.8:4,5/6a)

Hi Clark,

I have quoted the previous verse, and just one word from the verse which follows, because as with all the verses of Scripture, context is vital to understanding, both the immediate, and wider context, isn't it?

The content of verse five is a statement of fact, unfortunately, for there are many idols, worshipped as gods in the world, and many self professed and idolized, 'lords,' in the world, (whether flesh and blood or the figment of imagination). 'BUT' - gratefully, we ourselves who know the truth in Christ Jesus, know, of a surety, that there is but One True, and Living God: The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise His Holy Name!

Blessed Assurance!
In Christ Jesus

A Voice In The Wilderness Bible
1 Corinthians 8:5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in the heavens or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),

These are my thoughts.
This world makes gods and serves many things but only the Lord is worth serving and gives life.

1 Corinthians 8:7 King James Version (KJV)
7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

1 Corinthians 8:7
NSB 7 Not all people know this. Some eat food offered to idols and their conscience being weak is defiled.

These are my thoughts.
Some people are weaker because of their past knowledge, we should not be a stumbling block to these.

Hello Clark,

This context concerns the conscience of a weaker brother or sister in Christ, doesn't it? Who has not yet come into the confidence which is borne of knowledge, and whose faith is weak as a consequence.

How important it is to gain an understanding of God which is founded on the Word of God: concerning the work of His Son the Lord Jesus Christ, and the completeness of our salvation resulting from it; that we may be assured that our sins are forgiven and that we have been accepted in the Beloved; and that we stand 'complete' in Him in God's sight; holy and without blame.  That the work of salvation is a completed work: and that the promise of  resurrection life, in Christ Jesus, is assured to us.

* This is what Paul desired for all those under his care, in Christ Jesus,

'That their hearts might be comforted,
being knit together in love,
and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding,
to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God,
and of the Father, and of Christ ...;'

(Col 2:2)

'Let us draw near with a true heart
in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water.'

(Heb 10:22)

Praise God!

Thank you,
In Christ Jesus

These are my thoughts.
We should try to live in a way where we uplift each other and avoid things that could weaken other believers.
