1 Corinthians 8:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

1 Corinthians 8:8
NSB 8 But food will not recommend us to God. If we do not eat we are not worse. If we eat we are not better.

These are my thoughts.
Food is always physical. While fasting can draw us closer to God, he is saying eating is meant to physical and not a spiritual act.

1 Corinthians 8:9 King James Version (KJV)
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

1 Corinthians 8:9
NSB 9 Be careful that this freedom does not become a stumbling block to those who are weak.

These are my thoughts.
We should not let our freedom in Christ cause those who that are burdened down by rules to slip away or be confused.

1 Corinthians 8:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

1 Corinthians 8:10 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

10 You have this ?knowledge?; but suppose someone with a weak conscience sees you sitting, eating a meal in the temple of an idol. Won?t he be built up wrongly to eat this food which has been sacrificed to idols?

These are my thoughts.
We should be encouragements to other believers rather then be someone who makes them weak.

1 Corinthians 8:11 King James Version (KJV)
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

New Simplified Bible
1 Corinthians 8:11
8:11 And because of your knowledge the weak brother will perish. Christ died for him!

These are my thoughts.
Lets not let what we know cause us to bring others down but let it be used to bring them to the cross.

1 Corinthians 8:12 King James Version (KJV)
12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

1 Corinthians 8:12
NSB 12 When you sin against your brothers and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

These are my thoughts.
To sin against each other, to cause one of the church to stumble is sin against not just them but against the Lord.

1 Corinthians 8:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.

1 Corinthians 8:13
NSB 13 If food makes my brother stumble I will eat no food at all so I do not make my brother stumble.

These are my thoughts.
If things can be avoided so that people don?t fall away that is exactly what we need to do, we should be willing to sacrifice so that other believers can grow and not stumble.
