Have you watched the Lord Of The Rings? Noticed when the ring is put on the eye thing in the mountain can locate wher the ring is and can enslave the individual who puts on the ring?
Now is the internet and computer devices comparable?
Mobiles, computers, tablets and even landlines, TV's, motor vehicles and a host of other equipment now is trackable, and not only that, can listen in and even have visual into peoples lives. Phones can be remotely turned on even if battery is low as they have a reserve battery on the circuit board. Camera and microphone can be turned on remotely from anyone with access.

I always think that living in the real world, aware of what is being reported happening allows one to keep things in perspective.

How did/does Cuba monitor those believed to be enemies or opposed to the state. Not by using computers.

How does China monitor and oppress Christians, again note via technology?

What did Jesus tell us about how the world would view his followers?

Where is our home?

Our role is to serve God in what ever area we are in or are able to move in.
That government s will spy on us, that governments will be corrupt, that fallen man will be hostile is all part of live.
We have to live with it, oppose it and be the scent of salvation.

I don't think we do have to live with it. I know there are uses for technology but ones privacy is the difference between slavery and a free person.

I would not make privacy a mark of being free. There are many cultures where the idea of privacy is alien.

Have you heard the term "Prison planet?"
Also, as far as the west is concerned we register our young into slavery at birth. Why the immigration issue and the wars in middle east countries who don't register etc.

" Prison Plant registered into Slavery" all very emotive words and all equally untrue.

Freedom is not an absolute, we are only 'free' inside the constrains of the law, whether that is the law of God, the law of the land or some self imposed set of rules and regulations.

no one is free to act entirely as they like, without any constraint.

Slavery, as the bible says if he will not work, he shall not eat.

One way or another we all have a 'master' it might be the boss at work, it might be the landlord or the bank, but we dance to the tune of necessiity, we need to pay for somewhere to live, for food to eat, for cloths to wear, for power to cook and light our home for to have the means to give to charity etc.

Would you have the government copy the example of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia where they forced everyone out of the cities to work on the land?

I don't understand the point you are making about Cambodia, John?
Goaty is advocating more freedom not less. Cambodia was a Marxist experiment that as usual involved mass murder slavery and starvation.

Freedom of the individual is always set against the protection of others from misuse of that freedom.
It is up to the people to discern when our freedom is being stripped away. Unfortunately whilst the people slept, successive governments have been stealing our freedom bit by bit and putting us into more and more bondage.
Thankfully the Brexit vote has put considerable restraint on their efforts.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Simple, we life in a capitalist society, Cambodia tried and like so many others failed to make a socalist utopia.

The only true protection of freedom is a radicle Christianity that challenges the false ideas held by society.

As I've said before it was Christianity that gave us freedom under the law of the land.

It will be Christianity that challenges the incursions of atheistic ideas about law etc.
