Hi John
Thank you for your reply why is this not the forum to discuss evolution and creation I believe it is an important subject for all Christian sites.
I don't know who has viewed this thread it's not important what is important is it has been viewed by quite a lot and hopefully they have read the scriptures that have been posted.

I thank you for the links you have given and I will have a look but I am not looking for an argument but a civilised discussion.

Love and Peace
Dave

I was going to ask "what do you mean by evolution" but rather than being lazy - decided to search the original poster and his query, as evolution can mean anything from Darwinism -  to an egg /becoming a caterpillar/ christalist/  [sorry chrysalis] to a butterfly..

So lets look  @Kingfisher   and his reply "quote"

I do believe cells and germs mutate and evolve but in terms of going from sea creature to homo sapiens I don't believe. For me there is no strong evidence. I always believed "variation not evolution".

Well - if you follow the Rabbi  - you would probably [if you know scripture]believe what the bible tells you as in "I came from Adam and Eve"

Then again if everything has to be scriptural then "you would also believe that people must be stoned for picking up sticks on the Sabbath/ [I know that sounds silly but some people believe you should not shop on a sunday]

Anyway no - I was not a descenendant of an ape  and my family tree [pun] did not swing from branches...

But yes - cell division is a basic fact and this is evolution at it's basic's.

Hi
I suppose it all boils down to a question of time science says the solar system is about 4.6 billion years old if we do a literal reading of the Bible it is about 6000 years old so we see there is a slight difference.
so has the scientists got it entirely wrong or is the literal reading of the Bible the wrong way to read it is there any way to reconcile these differences.
from Gods view point billions of years are drop in the ocean he is eternal out side of time so would he put a time limit on his creation did he take billions of  years to create all life forms that we see today.

Hi
Was Genesis written to answer modern scientific knowledge considering when it was written the people of that time thought the earth was flat and stood still and everything went round it.
So would God make any attempt to explain his creation process to them they would never understood it so God kept it to a simple little story easy to understand even for us the bottom line is God created everything and everything did not create it's self.

Scripture, which the prophets of old both wrote and believed, makes it plain that the earth isn't flat. Sailors understood that the earth was curved because it could be seen on the horizon.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Hi Frances
Thank you for your reply you would need to prove your first statement from scripture I know we have this verse

Isa 40:22  It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;

But it dose not say the earth is round like a ball it jest says i is a circle like a plate if you stand on a mountain and turn 365 degrees the earth looks like a circle.
As for when Genesis was written nobody knows for certain the academics say it was edited in its present form after the return from Babylon but they were working on much older material how old we don't know could be anything up to 6000 years or more and I don't think the people of that era would have any idea about a spherical shaped earth ro that they were out sailing the seven seas to see a curved horizon.
Like I said before Genesis was written for an ancient people and not to answer questions of the scientific community of today and if you take my explanation that there was a creation before the flood of unspecified time and one after the flood which will take 7000 years 7 days 1000 years long then we can forget about the creation and evolution argument.

Love and Peace
