Do you believe in Evolution?
« on: May 27, 2016, 01:44:36 AM »
Hi all.

Just wondering...

My wife's family all go to Anglican church, and they all believe in evolution including my wife.
I never really followed any particular church but I do attend CofE with my wife, and I do believe in evolution.

How many on here do/ do not believe in evolution?
Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit

Ooo John will like this topic  :D

Well I evolved to be a Christian - I was dead but now I am alive.

I was once likened to  an animal Matthew 7:6; Matthew 7:6 "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.  -  Deuteronomy 14:8 Revelation 22:15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

So yes a Christian evolves and transforms...

Mind you I can still bark up the wrong tree !

Again God uses a metaphor ....however evolution  can be found as cells mutate and germs .

However they are still cells and germs....

People can evolve but they are still people.

So yes evolution ia a Christian concept - but it is not reincarnation -  as although I change I do not become a different being.

Having said that - take a look at this metaphor ...........1 Corinthians 15:38; But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.

Wow evolution by God being carried on ......................  @Kingfisher

I do believe cells and germs mutate and evolve but in terms of going from sea creature to homo sapiens I don't believe. For me there is no strong evidence. I always believed "variation not evolution".

How do I evolve here?

Ahh I am still the same person- but I take root and grow in Christ - I die  and become  in Him

I  rise within His Body .....

Past- -present and future tense....

I become someone else - but remain me  :D

HOWEVER this is not menntioning dinosaurs or man evolving from apes = which is a completely different subject

No - we  Devolved from Adam and eve

And are being made back into the image of God [IF we follow Him]

We are going backwards if we are not in Him

First define evolution, do you mean the unobserved and unscientific ' goo to you via the zoo!' or change within a species?
2nd how do you understand the bible, do you read what it says or do you read into it what it does not say?
The enormous amounts of time belived to be required for evolution is not supported by the bible nor is the believe in evolution.eg. The ten commandments state God made the world in 6 days. Jesus said man was from the beging of creation.
3rd where did the ideas of long ages and evolution come from. Strangly they come from those hostile to God. Lyell wanted to remove the influence of Moses from geology.
Huxley said, a child could see that Christianity stands or falls on the reliablity of 'genesis'.
4th as Jesus said you can tell much about a person or an idea by the fruit it produces. Christianity has been missused and produce evil deeds but compared to the logical out come of evolution and the enormous saga of human misery it has and is producing anyone can see that evolution is not a belief for Christians.
5th can Christian believe in evolution. Yes but see Dawhins comment:- "The moderates? [liberals?] position seems to me to be fence-sitting. They half-believe in the Bible but how do they decide which parts to believe literally and which parts are just allegorical?" and "It seems to me an odd proposition that we should adhere to some parts of the Bible story but not to others. After all, when it comes to important moral questions, by what standards do we cherry-pick the Bible? Why bother with the Bible at all if we have the ability to pick and choose from it, what is right and what is wrong?"
His and most atheists view of Christianity is:-
?Oh but of course the story of Adam and Eve was only ever symbolic, wasn?t it? Symbolic?! So Jesus had himself tortured and executed for a symbolic sin by a non-existent individual? Nobody not brought up in the faith could reach any verdict other than barking mad!?
There are no theological reasons for believing in evolution only man made ideas that either reject God or lead to a slow rejection of God. Science can only be explained within a Christian framework.

Hi
I do not believe in evolution because it contains far to many miracles that a one celled organism and no one can adequately explain where that came from managed to turn itself into a blue whale or an eye or the most complicated mass in the universe we know of the human brain the amount of miracles it would take are astronomical.
So the only answer is life on this planet must have been created and the only contender for this is the God of the Bible and Gods word is always greater than man's.

Love and Peace
Dave
