In the light of this - what do folks make of 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he/she is a new creation

I mean the sabbath rest -as in Hebrews 4:7-8 now takes on a new meaning.

Except that Sunday has never been the Sabbath.

Except in much of Europe and other parts of the world where the 7th day of the week is labeled Sunday.

Not true. Sunday has always been the 1st day of the week, not the 7th.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

The first day of the week is the first day of the week.  What difference does it make if you call it Sunday or Monday or even Bob for that matter? The seven day cycle hasn't been broken at least from the first century right up until the present.

Hi
Gods sabbath rest corresponds to the 7 th day of creation when God rested from the work of creating man in his image.
It also corresponds to Christs millennial reign when he will reign with a rod of iron the Father taking a well earned rest.
The Father will resume work again after the millennium when he will create a new heaven and earth.

Love and Peace
Dave

No Dave you have not understood the simple words in genesis.
The seventh day of creation is the day that God rested.
That God didn't continue to rest is seen by
Jesus's comment that he worked on the sabbeth just as his Father was also working.

Hi John
Thanks for your reply but I think you need to read what the bible says.

But Jesus answered them, ?My Father is working until now, and I am working.?
John 5:17 ESV

If the Father was still working up to the time of Christ it stands to reason Gods sabbath  rest is a future event.
