Apart from its expensive ah.

We all love Christmas and easter, however its all been heavily commercialised and the true meaning of it as gone. It should be about family and helping each other and Jesus etc. But now its all about spend spend spend nowadays. and about santa clause etc.

However,

ive said before that, Christmas and Easter arnt originally Christian holidays they pagan and I think the romans when they converted incorporated they pagan celebrations into Christianity and today they are Christian holidays. So we celebrate Christmas and easter today as been jesus birthday and crucifixion etc even though we know he wasn't actually born on that particular day, soo maybe we use that as a day to remember, and also the bible never mentions the day he was born or to celebrate it. Jesus said just remember him through eating and drinking and loving each other and many other ways.

I know some Christians do still celebrate it because its obviously our national culture but also because they either believe it was the day he actually was born or they use it as remembrance day for it and some Christians don't celebrate it at all because the bible doesn't mention it.

So what do you think about it ?.

I myself celebrate Christmas and easter but I don't think they where the actual days he was born or died i use them as remembrance days for it.

Even though we should remember everyday but them days are more of celebration of remembrance if you get me.

What about Christian festivals, such as Christmas and Easter? God hasn't prescribed any as part of His new covenant - but that doesn't mean that we can't have them. Just like the Israelites (who had seven festivals every year), we benefit from an annual rhythm, the occasional break from routine, and opportunities to focus our attention on a particular aspect of God's goodness. And we have even more reason than they did to celebrate! But our festivals are not compulsory, and there are no rules as to how or when we should celebrate them.

The date of Christmas is completely arbitrary. But it is appropriate to celebrate the entry of the Light of the world into the world just after the winter solstice, when the darkness is maximal yet the days are beginning to lengthen.

Easter was originally linked to the Jewish Passover (although the churches calculate the date differently, so these days they don't always coincide). And because Jesus died on a Friday and rose on a Sunday, we stick to those days of the week (unlike Passover, which can vary).

We make big events out of Christmas and Easter because there are lots of traditional foods and activities that go with them. Pentecost should be at least as important as Christmas, yet it is very much neglected. Why do you think this is?

Christmas and Easter are the special days for Christians, and it matters not to me whether they are commercialised or not:  it does not stop me celebrating the days.  But anyway, my thoughts are not confined to any particular day:  I celebrate and thank the Lord every day!

Probably cos nobody gets any presents on Pentecost so they cant be assed. To put it simply. Commercialisation,  in this world people only do things if they getting something out of it.

They like Christmas because of presents, They like easter because of chocolate... They forget the true meaning of it, they get totally nout out of Pentecost so don't do it at all.

well it matters to me because it destroys the meaning of it.

It doesn't if you don't let it.  Why does it bother you that others do not celebrate as you think they should?  Your relationship to God and to Jesus is not reliant on how Christmas is viewed by the general populace.

Hi
I think it can serve a good purpose if it makes someone to start to think and investigate what the real purpose of Christmas is and come to know who Jesus really is.
On the other hand they do say if it was not for Christmas many firms would go bankrupt.

Love and Peace
