'I Jesus have sent mine angel
to testify unto you these things in the churches.
I am the root and the offspring of David,
and the bright and morning star.
'

(Rev.22:16)

Hello Dave (@davetaff)

These titles are exclusively Jewish, and proclaim their Owner as 'The Coming One' who shall confirm and fulfil all the promises made unto David.  The Lord Jesus is both the 'Root' from which David sprang, and the 'Offspring' which sprang from David (Isa. 11:1; John 8:55-59).  On the basis of this fact the Lord asks the question of - Matt. 22:41-46:-

'While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying,
"What think ye of Christ?"
"Whose son is He?
"
They say unto Him, "The Son of David."
He saith unto them,
"How then doth David in spirit call Him 'Lord', saying,
The LORD said unto my Lord,
'Sit Thou on My Right Hand,
'till I make Thine enemies Thy footstool?
If David then call Him 'Lord',
how is He his son?"

And no man was able to answer Him a word,
neither durst any man from that day forth
ask Him any more questions.'

(Mat 22:41-46))

* There is a third title, 'The Morning Star,' which brings in this eternal 'day'.

'I shall see him, but not now:
I shall behold him, but not nigh:
there shall come a Star out of Jacob,
and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel,

and shall smite the corners of Moab,
and destroy all the children of Sheth.

(Num 24:17)  '

* To those who overcome, is also promised:-

'And he that overcometh,
and keepeth my works unto the end,

to him will I give power over the nations:
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron;
as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers:
even as I received of my Father.
And I will give him the morning star.
'[/b]
(Rev 2:26-28)

* How awesome these things are!

Praise His Holy Name!

'And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come."
.. And let him that heareth say, "Come."
.... And let him that is athirst come.
...... And whosoever will,
let him take the water of life freely.

(Rev.22:17)

* How wonderful this is, isn't it?

This defines the Blessing, and goes back to the very beginning, encompassing the enjoyment of all that was lost.  In Gen. 3:22-24, a solemn sentence was pronounced and executed:

'And the LORD God said,
"Behold, the man is become as one of us,
to know good and evil:
and now, lest he put forth his hand,
and take also of the tree of life,
and eat, and live for ever:
Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,
to till the ground from whence he was taken.
So he drove out the man;
and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims,
and a flaming sword which turned every way,
to keep the way of the tree of life.'

(Gen 3:22-24)

* Here now, 'right' to the tree of life is given.  The seed of the woman had been bruised in the heel; the Serpent's head has been crushed.  So now the invitation 'Come' can now be given.

* The Spirit first gives the invitation, and the Bride who has been revealed from heaven repeats it.  Then those who 'hear' give the call, then those who are, 'athirst, and all who will are invited to come, and 'take the water of life freely'.

* It is the believing Remnant of Israel, who, as the Bride, give the invitation to 'come', for paradise is restored.

Even so, come Lord Jesus!

Praise His Holy Name!

'I testify
unto every man that heareth
the words of the prophecy of this book,
If any man shall add unto these things,
God shall add unto him
the plagues that are written in this book.'

(Rev.22:18)

* The Lord Jesus Christ Himself speaks very directly in this chapter, doesn't He, with the words, 'I am', 'I Jesus', (in verses 13 & 16), and here in this verse the word, 'I', is very emphatic, 'I testify', adding great weight and solemnity to these closing words.

He Who, as 'the last Adam', has, 'restored all things', and, 'made all things New', is warning the hearers of this prophecy not to add to what is written for their hearing. The consequence of doing so does not bear thinking about, does it? For just as the plagues of Egypt were real and formidable, so too are those recorded in this book.

'And if any man shall take away
from the words of the book of this prophecy,
God shall take away his part out of the book of life,
and out of the Holy city,
and from the things which are written in this book.'

(Rev.22:19)

* Continuing, the Lord now warns against 'taking away' from the words of this book, and the consequence for doing so is very great, isn't it?  Now it is not physical injury, but eternal loss which is at stake.

* My Bible's marginal notes tell me that the words, 'book of life', is not in the original text, but, 'tree of life'.  So access to the tree of life will be denied to those who 'take away' from the words of this book, in fact access into the Holy City, will be denied them, and that is where the tree of life will be.

'He which testifieth these things saith,
"Surely, I come quickly."
"Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus."
The Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Amen'

(Rev.22:20,21)

* Finally, the last words are reached.  This is the 7th warning by the Lord of His coming. The words, 'even so', are not in the original text, just, 'Amen. Come Lord Jesus', which is John's response to our Lord's words.

All that is left is for us to do is to echo those words: - "Amen. Come Lord Jesus."

Praise His Holy Name!

Hi All
So we have come to the end of this wonderful book there has been many twists and turns But I do believe it has been a useful undertaking and I  would like to thank Serenity for starting it.
I believe it has been a profitable journey 821 posts and 18327 views that means  the scriptures that have been posted have been read by many so it has been well worth the effort.

Like I have said before we have only scratched the surface so if anyone would like to take up any part of this wonderful book feel free to ask I'm sure it has a lot more to offer.

Love and Peace
Dave
