  To Him that overcometh

Those peoples that overcome /women/men/whatever race/ religion ?

So it's my own efforts in Christ that qualify me ?

I think it requires your effort in as far as....it requires your submission to God.  So then whatever you do then after submitting 'self' to God in things, is done through God's and not your own strength.

In a way I wonder if in essence you make yourself 'weak' or self 'weak', so then 'in my weakness He is strong'...does that make sense?

Yes I believe you  have it there serenity  :D

And I think its an ongoing thing [day by day]  a heart motivation / thus when I allow myself to be weak - He is strong.

Goes against the modern day society "of [do not show weakness]

Whats that song \?  heres the modern version Let the weak say I am Strong - VIDEO

Hi
Moving on to the next verse

Rev 8:8  And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;

I think the mountain is maybe symbolic of authority or kingdom the fire the cleansing fire of the word of God from those who have been baptised with fire the sea are of course the peoples of the world the great sea of humanity.
and a third part of that sea received the cleansing blood of Christ the holy spirit.

Love and Peace
Dave

ahh there you are with the sea serenity  http://www.1faith.co.uk/articulate/vision-of-harbour/msg55975/?topicseen#msg55975

Yes the second trumpet

The mountain here seems to symbilise "people" indeed leaders of high and noble positions - see : Isaiah 40:4 and Luke 3:5 :

I think we get the best analogy of the sea to blood by looking backwards @ Exodus 7:19:

Here in exodus we see the shadow and [the mountain being Pharaoh]

Of course the sea of reeds , is part of the red sea. [symbolic of blood] and the washing [baptism]

What do you make of this @BobbyDazzler

Well TJ, I'm sorry if anyone's mentioned this before (I don't have time to go back through 38 or so pages) but I have found that a good place to start out understanding Revelation is to understand the book of Daniel first.
