Okay, my question is, the author says 'represents', so does that mean there is not a literal 'lake of fire'? What is meant by 'eternal death'?, does that mean being dead forever, never a chance to come back? Do the dead know they are dead? I pondering aloud here, as this raises lots of questions for me. Is it referring to spiritual death?

Well death and Hades will be are have been  cast into the lake of fire !

Death and Hades are both destroyed  in 1Corinthians 15:26 - death being the last enemy

Thus hades and death are temporal places

However the second death is the "Lake of fire"  Now is the Lake of fire temporal or eternal ?

Hi
I agree with MG that the thousand years is jest that I believe it's all based on the six days of creation which started with Noah so we have jest entered or about to enter  the 6th day when man will be created in the image of God Christ is united with his bride the comes the 7th day the millennial reign of Christ I believe this to be Gods Sabbath rest on the eighth day Christ hands back everything to the father.
this I believe is the time frame when theses things will happen I believe revelations began at the time John got his vision.
Looking at the above posts it would seam we have a lot to get through could take years :D

I posted this on another thread today thought ti mite fit in here.

   Hi
What is the lake of fire is it a literal fire where sinners will be burned and destroyed I don't believe so could a God of Love do such a thing The bible tells us we will be baptised with fire dose this mean we will become the lake of fire after all the bible tells us that the seas mentioned in revelations are peoples so why can't those baptised with fire be a lake of fire.
The purpose of the lake of fire will be to receive those who are unbelievers and sinners so they can be taught by Jesus Christ and his church and have opportunity to repent at the same time they will be tormented day and night as they will not be able to do the evil they want to do and this will drive them mad.

Love and Peace

Now you probably noticed we are coming at this from a different angle !

Usually we would read "the Church is the Light or come out of the world"

But notice here I am suggesting a representation of the city .....

The angel of each Church is the "messenger" of [pastor/teaching/preacher]

This is the seven Churches of Asia....

You see Ephesus had Forsaken its first love in Revelation 2:1-7 and in Ephesus Diana was worshiped

Looking in more detail  into the history of  Smyrna mentioned in Revelation 2:8-11  we discover a wealthy city known for the manufacture of myrrh - it had been invaded and rebuilt - hence we begin to see the relevance of the message to the "messenger" by a "Messenger" about  suffering  persecution .....

Find out more about these cities and you begin to see the relevance behind these messages to "The Church of _______"

Pergamum allowed allowing false teachers in Revelation 2:12-17
Thyatira had a false prophetess in Revelation 2:18-29
Sardis had fallen asleep in Revelation 3:1-6
Philadelphia endured Revelation 3:7-13
And finally Laodicea was lukewarm and as mentioned - we know this city was wealthy and had running water suplied through a pipeline which when reaching its destination was "Lukewarm" Revelation 3:14-22

At this point I want to refer to the "Prophets" and specifically to certain prophets who were the "beacon light" to
the nation - or the "lamp"  now turn to Isaiah 20:2-3  ?  at that time the LORD spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, "Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet." And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot. - Then the LORD said, "Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,

Now too another Prophet of a nation [notice prophet of a nation and Church of a city]

Hosea 1:2 KJB The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of  whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD

Now read 1 Thessalonians 4:7  For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.  ?

Would you see Hosea as living a Holy Life  [marrying a prostitute and saying "GOD TOLD ME TOO"]

Again the names of the children are important and are "prophetic"

Jezreel meant to be  "Scattered" as Israel was to be scattered [future tense but now past]

Lo-Ruhamah meant to have  "No Mercy" and would you believe Lo-Ammi meant.....you are  "Not My People"

So the same God who prophesied this through His "beacon lights or stars/messengers"

Later became the same God who redeemed and brought back His people and showed mercy....

You see God's Love is not a pretty pretty Love - it is a deep Love

As this is an interactive http://www.biblebuddies.co.uk study - I will wait for some interaction.- but as it is deep-
consider the answer before posting...

You see I am putting across - that "as Hosea was not living a Holy life and was a reflection of a nation as the Church
of a city reflected that City" - I have reversed the "usual notion" and turned it upside down.

Now these cities are reflected by the Churches of.......

It is for you to reverse this notion....

And so although the outside of the cup may look dirty - the inside is clean [as the Lord has made it clean]

Those who proclaim to be clean are or can be [seen as unclean before the Lord]

God sometimes used  prophets[messengers] of old to convey a message to the people within that city - not just by word - but by prophetic action/imagery.

The Church of Laodicia however and others were given warnings because God could see abominations Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Now God uses imagery to cast out a Church - within a city - both with the same problem]

What do you make of this ....

If people can be spat out - where are they spat too ?

Hi
We seam to be jumping about all over the place from one end of revelations to the other partly my fault I think Serenity meant it to be a more orderly walk through it one peace at a time so lets start with  Ephesus:   The Desired One.
Does  "Ephesus: The Desired One" mean the first church the one nearest the time of our Lord the one he desired was the early church
the one founded on him and the apostles.

 Rev 2:1  Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
Rev 2:2  I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
Rev 2:3  And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Rev 2:4  Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Rev 2:5  Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Rev 2:6  But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
Rev 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

What was there first love surely it must have bean Christ maybe there love for him had started to grow cold after all the persecutions the early church suffered everything else seamed to please him but as always it's the most important thing of all love, love covers a multitude of sins.

Can we apply this to our selves that we get so distracted by the evils of the world ( Nicolaitans ) that we let it interfere with our first love.

Love and Peace

It seems everyone has agreed so far

Lets now go to the Church in Sardis and disect this message

1?To the angela of the church in Sardis write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. 3Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

4Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. 5The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels. 6Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Now lets narrow it down to Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes

What do you make of this progressive revelation ?

Hi Tj
I believe the clothes mentioned here is the righteousness of Christ which we are clothed with when we are born again and we must do our best to keep it spotless,
Jest had a thought Adam and Eve where clothed in animal skins we are clothed in white dose that mean anything.

Iv'e also been thinking about the number seven, seven spirits, seven church's, seven angels, seven trumpets, seven seals, seven plagues. and of course the seven days of creation, seven of course being the perfect number when all Gods work will be completed.

Love and Peace
