Most senior woman bishop consecrated in Canterbury service

The most senior woman bishop in the Church of England is to be consecrated at Canterbury Cathedral later.

The Rev Rachel Treweek, 52, the former Archdeacon of Hackney in the Diocese of London, will become the new Bishop of Gloucester.

Two women bishops have already been appointed, but Archdeacon Treweek is the first woman to run a diocese and will be one rank below archbishop.

She is succeeding The Right Reverend Michael Perham, who retired last year.

'Joy and privilege'

Representatives and clergy from churches across Gloucestershire are expected to be in attendance to welcome the new bishop to the diocese.

She is expected to join a procession to the cathedral before being consecrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury and giving her first sermon.

It is understood she will also become the first female bishop to enter the House of Lords.

Rev Treweek said it was "an immense joy and privilege" when she was appointed to the role in March.

The Church formally adopted legislation to allow women bishops last November.

"I want to be someone who builds good relationships with people, who listens and wants to engage with their hopes and concerns," she told Clare Balding on Radio Two's weekly topical faith show.

"But above all I want to be seen as a strong follower of Jesus who confidently talks about Jesus's hope and love.

"One of our challenges in the Church of England at the moment is to talk more confidently about Jesus Christ - people are very good at living out Christ's hope and love but not so good at talking about why they live as they do."

Rev Treweek will be enthroned in Gloucester cathedral on 19 September.

I utterly reject this antibiblical nonsense of Women Bishops.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

But then I also object to this antibiblical appointing of men bishops.
Bishops are simply translated as teachers and leaders /overseers, regardless of the denominational title

some are selected as teachers, some as prophets, some as elders, some as deacons etc

It's simply another title for the same thing

I might be led by God to begin a bible fellowship in my home and God may increase this - until it becomes a house fellowship and I am now known as the pastor or teacher and [bishop] is simply a name for teacher/overseer]

Now if this office of appointment grows and is extended then I become an overseer [at this second the broadcast on the bbc  news has just mentioned this very topic.] in fact as I typed  bishop the person spoke "bishop" [hear the rhema]

Anyway back to referencing the past "Word = bible" Mentioned in  Acts 20:28 ;Philippians 1:1 ; 1 Timothy 3:2 ; Titus 1:7;

Overseers watch over the flock and protect the flock as Moses "was an overseer" as was King David/Abraham..................................etc

With the help of Jethro his fatherinlaw Moses designated overseers over thousands/hundreds and tens  Exodus 18:25
25 Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

The overseer is merely an onward projection of this concept [or simple english / people chosen to judge disputes between others]

Thus - The bible is applied in peoples lives - now today

Isn't this "God's word"  being applied?
