Wisconsin: Don't Hide University's Monkey Abuse From Public Records!

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is seeking to exempt the University of Wisconsin's animal experiments from laws that require public disclosure of their records. The University is running maternal deprivation studies on baby monkeys. These experiments involve seizing baby monkeys from their mothers, placing them in isolation, and exposing them to frightening stimuli such as snakes. At 18 months, researchers kill the baby monkeys and dissect their brains to examine the effects of their experiments.

Walker's proposed law is an apparent response to last fall's lawsuit from the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF). The ALDF sued the University for their refusal to disclose public records related to these experiments.

The University of Wisconsin is a public institution, and people have a right to know what experiments their money is helping to fund, and what the records of these experiments show. Their refusal to share their records with the people funding their institution suggests they have something to hide. Please sign the petition to urge Wisconsin legislators to reject Walker's proposal to hide monkey abuse from public records!
