Well at the beginning there was a need for all of God's children to be born then, now and in the future.
In the end all of God's children will have been born before and up until that point.
There will be no more need for reproduction.
With this in mind, whether it was before or after the fall, whether the fall had happened or not, Adam and Eve either way seemed to be destined to reproduce anyway.

Perhaps it's simply that Adam and Eve were living in eternity and had no great rush to reproduce . . . or maybe (being in eternity) that 100 years just slipped by like a few minutes.

Then they lost that contact with the heavenly realm, so perhaps they just thought, "Oh gosh, we'd better try to do SOMETHING of what God told us...." :)

Adam was 130 years old when seth was born.

Gen 5:3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

We are not told just how old Adam and Eve were when Cain and Able were born, but if we speculate and say that Cain was an adult, say 30 years old.

Then it would indicate that they must have been a 100 years old when they started to reproduce, and then only after the fall to fulfill what God commanded them to do immediately after He had created them.

Gen 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

Why, I wonder did it take them a 100 years before they obeyed His first command to them.

Edwin.

Adam lived for over 900 years so at 100 years old he would be a mere youth in his prime the question for me is in what respect did Adam resemble God St Paul tells us in Romans.

Rom 5:14  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

who is the figure of him that was to come. is this a reference to Christ if so how was Adam and Christ alike was it as human beings or will it be as Christ will be at his second coming when he is united with his bride the church his Eve and they become one.
in which case everything that happened before the flood has happened after the flood to put right the things that went wrong before the flood the only difference is Christ was taken up to heaven so he could not be tempted by Eve the church.

I have also wondered about this verse.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

It reminds me of St Peter and these verses.

Act 10:11  And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
Act 10:12  Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

I believe the animals in the sheet represent the gentile nations to kill and eat was to kill through baptism and to eat was to absorb into the body of the church the same command as Adam had go forth and multiply.

Love and Peace
