Faith-Q - What is the decretive Will of God ?
« on: May 02, 2014, 01:00:06 AM »
What is the decretive Will of God ?

In Gods decretive Will?  He can?  make decrees

So God decrees, He announces, He proclaims something ahead of time !

This was often done within Jewish communities of old where a proclamation was made as the King came to town or the army came back from war

"Make way make way, straighten the paths, clear the roads" Matthew 3:3

This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of
? one calling in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.

In making way , we "stand aside" we allow Gods purposes to be done [whether we know the purposes or not]

So Gods decretive will works as part of?  Gods "Sovereign will" being hidden or seen

Gods decretive will , decrees and proclaims what God has intended "beforehand"

So its announced ahead of time, before the King marches into town

And Throughout scripture we have "Prophesy!" and prophesy is Gods "pre" announcement

And so Gods speaks His plans into the future through people about "nations" or "people" or "end times" etc etc

And what God prophecies through people [The Great Prophet] will be done !

If God says "It will be - then it will be" therefore it is Decreed

Whereas Gods sovereign plan and over all will is above all, Gods sovereign purposes?  can be hidden

You could say that all is?  "destined" to happen because God cannot lie, but that He has hidden things Proverbs 25:2

It is also decreed ahead of time and therefore can be said to be "pre" destined

Just one typical example of a predestined word [or Prophesy] is Isaiah 40:3 and here Gods decretive will is announced ahead of time

So in this "whatever mankind does it cannot overrule something that God has decreed to happen"

Whether that implies "people, nations, or the end times"

Our will and free will simply works within these perimeters

In Gods decretive will He created all things both hidden and seen, as He decreed and it happened

Or as some translations put it [For he spoke, and it came into existence, he issued the decree, and it stood firm. ]

Why does'nt God show us His decretive Will ?

He does - but not always...

God took Joseph to Egypt [through His Sovereign Will] after being thrown down a well and being left as dead, Joseph is forgotten about [but not by God] now a nation is born in Egypt]

So now God's people become slaves and in bondage while in Egypt and after generations - God draws them out of this bondage..

[Nothing to do with their will's - but God's Sovereign Will [though they could not see His hidden Will or what He was about to do]

They follow Him [but then decide to behave like a spoilt child being dragged along the floor ] but not all responded in this way ] this there was the remnant / The ten lost tribes of Israel [now you argue within yourself ... "why they were lost"] as they continue to walk in darkness and follow God or not...

One view is God's hidden Will [which they could not always see]  another view is Josephs response to God and God's replies  and yet another view is the hebrew people rebelling against God.... [after God heard their hearts and delivered them]

It is not a simple analogy- but a war [in spiritual places or within the heart]

Your logical mind might ask "why did God lead Joseph to Egypt - when He knew "it would a  produce a nation into bondage"

This was about men's hearts and power

Many things of God are hidden from us...

I am drawn at this point to another scripture ..  eg: 2 Corinthians 4:4  The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

This scripture does not mean that you will know all the intentions of God in your life...

God will always hide certain things from you..

You are still walking with a Light before you in a dark place  eg: John 12:46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

But at the same time you are "as one blind" Psalm 119:105  Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

You just take one day at a time - as you do not know what tomorrow will bring..

Have you got authority over your days  and life  ? no..

But you have authority over your heart and how you respond ...

So how do you respond to something you do not know will happen ?
