Yes we do learn that God is forgiving, but what do we learn about Jesus from Moses's actions, if he is a type of Christ, we should learn from him.

we do not copy Moses instead we imitate that which we see through Moses that points to Jesus

In the family that nurtured me up as a young Christian I saw many things that led me to Jesus and things that I could imitate, but these people were not perfect all the time and there were things I would learn from..as in mistakes they made and times when they tripped up

In the same way you do not copy the minister when he picks his nose, but you might copy him when God uses him to draw others to Christ

James tells us where sin comes from and the consequences of sin. It comes from our desires and causes wars, decention among us.
What do we learn from the types of Christ?

I believe we learn and see that scripture points to Jesus and His coming even in the Old testament

we learn from this stories "what not to do" and "what to do"

But in all things we focus on Jesus

We see that the Old testament is a reflection of the new,
