1 John 5:5-12

King James Version (KJV)

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

1 John 5:5-12

CLV(i)5 Now who is he who is conquering the world if not he who is believing that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is He Who is coming through water and blood and spirit - Jesus Christ - not in the water only, but in the water and in the blood. And the spirit it is which is testifying, for the spirit is the truth, 7 seeing that three there are that are testifying, 8 the spirit, and the water, and the blood, and the three are for the one thing." 9 If we are obtaining the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God, that He has testified concerning His Son." 10 He who is believing in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; he who is not believing God has made Him a liar, for he has not believed in the testimony which God has testified concerning His Son." 11 And this is the testimony, that God gives us life eonian, and this life is in His Son." 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who has not the Son of God has not the life.

These are my thoughts please share yours.

5 We can overcome all the world can throw at us by believing Jesus is the Son of God, this is the truth. Faith in the truth can give us what  we need to get thru all that happens. All we may go thru will only be for a period and life with Christ is forever.

6 We are all born by water thru being born physically but thru Christ's blood we can be born of the Spirit.

7 In Jewish law all that needed to be found for a testimony to be consider true was two people.

8 Christ miraclious birth showed who He is. Christ death showed who He is. The Spirit we are given when we come to faith shows who He still is.

9 Men can give false testimony and lie but God is true always so He will never lie. God's word says who Jesus is and God's word is always true.

10 All of us who came to Christ have a testimony of coming to Jesus and how Jesus has used us since then. Anyone that rejects the gospel and Christ rejects the truth and rejects God's word and there by rejecting God.

11 Our testiomony will last because thru Christ we have eternal life.

12 Christ rose from death and He will raise us from our death to life in Him because of our faith in Him. However, if we were not to believe we would not have life in Him but have to face Him in judgement.

Back to three key poimters here

1. Believe

2. Baptised

3. Overcome

We note that maybe these disciples had been baptised and they believed but the belief not an ongoing but a stopping and the seed getting snatched away or never having been true Conversion but merely sheeps clothing [onyl God knows] nonetheless  John 6:66 states that there was at this time a large proportion of disciples leaving like am mass evacuation, not being the twelve or the seventy disciples who were "born again" having their names written in the Lambs book of Life , but those that walked away not being the "Fathers" but hearing the call, yet being offended by the words of Jesus

We must ask "did these disciples loose eternal life ?  if they had never gained it ?

No doubt as we look at Re: Warnings & threats to Christians about losing eternal life! -

Amd so Jesus has overcome the world Re: God calls you to be an overcomer by living a holy life!

And so a question

Do we need to "overcome " when Jesus has already overcome ?

John 16:33

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
