Daily Voice : Outlaw Cruel Single-Sheep Pens
« Reply #96 on: August 02, 2013, 07:01:47 PM »
Outlaw Cruel Single-Sheep Pens

For over a decade in Australia, factory farms such as The Wool Factory confined their sheep to tiny individual pens because they claimed it helped produce finer grade wool for suits and high-end fashion garments.

At these factory wool farms, many sheep were discovered to be chewing through the wire in their pens due to frustration and mounting stress levels. Behaviors such as head-butting and ceaseless pacing were rampant, yet the sheep were each held in solitary confinement for over half a decade.

In 2011 The Wool Factory announced that ultra-fine wool was too expensive to produce and their sheep were allowed to live outdoors again. However, no laws have been passed to ban the cruel practice and single pen sheep operations remain legal.

Sign this petition and urge the Victorian Government to ban cruel single-sheep pens.

Daily Voice : We Want a Worldwide Shark Fin Ban
« Reply #97 on: August 03, 2013, 07:00:30 PM »
We Want a Worldwide Shark Fin Ban

In the first weeks of 2013, thousands of shark fins were found on a factory rooftop in Hong Kong, hidden from the public. Likely, these fins were intended for shark fin soup -- a gourmet East Asian dish -- which surges in popularity around the Chinese New Year.

Shark finning is a terrible process. Fisherman catch sharks, then cut off their fins, then throw the rest of the animal back, leaving it to suffer and die. As demand for shark fin soup has skyrocketed, shark populations worldwide have plummeted.

Many countries and a few critical U.S. states have restricted sales of shark fins, but precious few have outright banned shark fishing. If we want to save the world's sharks and end this cruel practice we need a worldwide ban adopted by every nation and enforced by the United Nations.

Tell the UN Environment Management Group you want strong leadership and to make a worldwide shark fin trade ban a central goal of the agency.

Daily Voice : Thank Elizabeth Warren for Standing Up for the Middle Class

Thank Elizabeth Warren for Standing Up for the Middle Class

Last week, Elizabeth Warren introduced her first big banking bill in the Senate. The 21st? Century Glass-Steagall Act would hold big banks accountable and protect the middle class. It's exactly the kind of legislation we need to protect us from high-risk activities that broke our economy in the first place.

We need more women like Elizabeth Warren in elected office - women who are not afraid to ask the tough questions, and push for accountability from Wall Street. This is just another example of why EMILY's List works every day to elect more women like her.

Sign your name to thank Elizabeth Warren for standing up for the middle class. We'll send you updates on ways you can help EMILY's List elect more women like her in 2014, 2016, and beyond!

Elizabeth Warren: Thank you for standing up for the middle class!

Daily Voice : Make Animal "Crush" Videos a Federal Crime

Make Animal "Crush" Videos a Federal Crime

Police in Houson Texas arrested 2 people on Thursday, August 16- (Ashley Nicole Richards and Brent Wayne Justice)- for making least 27 videos of animals being tortured and killed.

The videos are called "crush" videos, and are made to satisfy a viewer's sexual fetish. "Crush" videos usually show attractive young women torturing and crushing baby animals with high heels, screwdrivers, knives, pliers and meat cleavers.

Even though there were 27 videos, because of Texas state law, the District Attorney can only charge the couple with two counts of animal cruelty, because the state does not allow "stacking". Under Texas law, the crime would be a State Jail Felony, there is only a maximum sentence of two years and a $2,000 fine.

If the case is tried in Federal Court, it could bring a seven year sentence and $10,000 fine. We ask U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas Court to investigate and file federal charges, as oppose to state charges.

Daily Voice : Give 11-Year-Old Chilean Rape Victim the Abortion She Needs!

Give 11-Year-Old Chilean Rape Victim the Abortion She Needs!

An 11-year-old girl from Chile is 14 weeks pregnant with a fetus that will most likely not survive. Her pregnancy is dangerous to her health. But she is still being forced to continue the pregnancy.

In Chile, abortion is illegal in ALL cases, even for rape victims whose lives are at risk. This young girl got pregnant from rape by her mother's boyfriend, who had been sexually assaulting her for 2 years. To the Chilean government, though, that doesn't seem to matter.

If Chile's leaders really cared about the lives of their people, they wouldn't be leaving an 11-year-old rape victim to suffer. Tell Chile to grant this child the abortion she needs and loosen its deadly laws so that this never happens again!

Daily Voice : Stop Civet Cruelty

Stop Civet Cruelty

Asian palm civets, (small, cat-like creatures found in south-east Asia), are kept in awful and horriic conditions- thousands are cramped in small cages, and force-fed a debilitating diet of coffee cherries used to make coffee harvested from civet fecal matter.

Kopi Luwak, (or civet coffee), is prepared using coffee cherries that have been eaten and partially digested by the civet. The civets digest the flesh of the coffee cherries but pass the beans inside, leaving their stomach enzymes to go to work on the beans, which adds to the coffee's prized aroma and flavor, harvested from the civet feces, which can cost $600 per pound in some parts of the world.

A growing numbers of such civet "farms" are emerging across south-east Asia, confining tens of thousands of the animals to live in tiny cages and force-fed a debilitating diet. Civets are taken from the wild, (which poses a conservation threat), then forced to endure inhumane and cruel conditions with a high mortality rate.

Let the goverment of Indonesia know you will not buy this coffee,- and tell them to stop the cruelty of civet farming.

Pet shop with 44 counts of animal cruelty is still running! LETS SHUT THEM DOWN FOR GOOD.

Pet shop with 44 counts of animal cruelty in under 1 month is STILL OPEN, please sign and share to help SHUT THEM DOWN FOR GOOD.

Local petshop owners convicted of 44 counts of animal cruelty and neglect to both puppies and kittens in one month. The wife got charged with 20 counts of cruelty to kittens that were found dead and near death lying in their own excrement, filth and surrounded by the dead bodies of their brothers and sisters, left there to rot. And only got her liscence BREIFLY SUSPENDED, and the shop remained open to the public.

The husband shortly after staged a burglary and took 24 sick and near death puppies with him and abondoned them, scattering them all over accross all the woods of clinton county, far and wide to avoid vet bills. These puppies aged from 6 weeks to 6 months. 13 were found and the rest are still missing.

The found puppies have parvo and are infested with parasites both internal and external and are extremely ill, some near deathmalnurished, and very very hungry, says the veterinarian. AND THE SHOP IS STILL OPEN.

Please sign this to SHUT THEM DOWN FOR GOOD. How many cruelty counts does it take to shut them down? how many more animals have to suffer and die from neglect from them? Please sign and share.

This is the Mayor's e-mail addres if you wish to send him something about this personally,

Hold Animal shelters responsible for reporting abuse or neglect for all animals brought in

Justice for Guiro.  Too many times we see dogs and cats and puppies and kittens abused and neglected while turned over to the shelter by their owners.  The shelter should be held responsible for reporting the abuse and start the process of filing charges against the owner of the abused animal.  At that time the owners should pay for vet care immediately, while under the care of the shelter.  Guiro was abused by his owner and then the shelter murdered him.  He died not knowing love.  Ignoring this is like telling a hospital they don't have to report child abuse.  Please sign and share this petition.
