Iran: Stop killing innocent animals

Dear community,

The life of many cats and dogs living in Iran often ends in a very brutal and inhumane manner. The state funds people to kill them on sight and encourages citizens to also kill by any method, and rewards them with money for every dead body received. People are killing these animals in very unacceptable inhumane manner via strangling with bare hands , stabbing them and drowning and so on, barbaric methods. Furthermore normal people are becoming accustomed to the cruelty and heartlessness, and are being motivated to have fun with the death of innocent animals.

Here you can find more information about pets in Iran.

Animals rights groups of Iran protest against this inhumane and cruel program out of pure empathy and compassion from our hearts we feel this is a wrong method to handle this situation. There is a modern and a civilized manner to deal with the cats and dogs, we must put an effort to research new way to address this unjust issue rather than mass extermination, and the inhumanly involved from regular citizens encouraged to kill and becoming desensitized to murder of innocent beings.

Tell Montgomery County School: Muslims Deserve a Holiday, Too!

Montgomery County School District in Maryland removed Christmas from their calendar as a response to Muslims who requested to close school for their holiday, Eid ul-Fitr.

The school board voted to remove all religious holidays from the school calendar rather than respect Muslims' request, but all students will still have major Christian and Jewish holidays off. Eid ul-Fitr, a major Muslim holiday that celebrates the end of Ramadan with a feast, will not be acknowledged on the school calendar, nor will school close so students can observe it, unless school happens to be closed for another reason. (Last year, Eid ul-Fitr coincided with Yom Kippur, and Muslims had the day off coincidentally.)

Removing all holidays from the school's calendar was a petty way to shame Muslims for requesting equal treatment. While Muslim students can take the day off anyway, they shouldn't have to choose between schoolwork and a celebration. Please sign the petition to urge the Montgomery County School District to let all students have a day off for Eid ul-Fitr.

Daily Voice : Demand Universal Access to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation

Demand Universal Access to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation

They seem like the most basic of rights. Clean drinking water. A sanitary toilet. Two elementary needs that are essential to health and dignity. Yet, around the world, a significant portion of the global population lacks access to these simple, vital necessities.

In 2014, 748 million people do not have access to a reliable safe source of clean drinking water. 2.5 billion people do not have access to improved sanitation.

When water is unsafe and sanitation non-existent, water can kill. Globally, waterborne illnesses are the second leading cause of death for children under five, killing 1,400 children every day.

We've made some progress. Since 1990, sanitation coverage in developing regions has increased by 21 percent and water coverage by 17 percent. Thanks to the work of UNICEF and its partners, more than 2.1 billion people have gained access to clean drinking water.

But UNICEF’s vision calls for far more dramatic progress—nothing short of universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.

By 2030 we want to to achieve universal access to basic drinking water, sanitation and hygiene for households, schools and health facilities.

These goals are ambitious, but achievable.
Meeting these goals — achieving the vision of universal access by 2030 — requires putting the needs of children and families first, regardless of geography, ethnicity or income level.

Take action today and support UNICEF’s vision for universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation.

Daily Voice : Save the Malayan Tiger from Extinction
« Reply #499 on: November 21, 2014, 12:00:11 AM »
Save the Malayan Tiger from Extinction

The Malayan Tiger is a sub-species of tiger that are found only on the Malay Peninsula and in the southern tip of Thailand. Until 2004, they were classified as the Indochinese tiger until DNA testing  showed it to be a separate subspecies. There are around 500 of this sub-species; the other 5 sub-species make up the world's last remaining 3,200 wild tigers.

Belum-Temengor, the largest continuous forest complex in Penissular Malaysia, is tiger habitat, but Temengor faces considerable deforestation from logging. With the recent construction of the East-West Highway, new towns and industrial areas have developed, and the Highway provides more access for the extraction of timber from the jungles. Additionally, there are plans to convert natural forest into plantation forests along the East-West Highway.

We ask Malaysia to stop logging in the Temengor Rainforest and save the Malayan Tiger from extinction by providing protected, unfragmented habitat. The Belum-Temengor Forest Complex is one of the last refuges for amazing, yet highly threatened wildlife, such as the Malayan tiger, Asian elephant and Sunda pangolin.

Seriously Prosecute Man and Woman Who Abused Their Child & 11 Dogs

Please sign and share this petition nationwide on all your media sites to bring awareness to this case, demanding severe punishment of these parents. They were investigated and discovered with their child, 11 years of age and 11 dogs living in deplorable conditions. We want to ensure these people are punished to the fullest extent of the law.

When investigating a situation with two parents in South Carolina, police discovered in their poor care, an 11-year old child and 11 very neglected dogs living in extreme poor conditions. Police were drawn to the home of Paul and Melanie Howard when a neighbor called and claimed these folks were stealing electricity.

During the investigation of the "stolen electricity," police discovered much more than they could've ever bargained for. The sheriff's office stated that these parents did not show any regard for the health and well being of their 11-year old girl and the dogs that lived in areas full of trash and feces. The child and dogs have lived in these conditions for many months or more.

Disturbing photos can be viewed at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/07/11-dogs-rescued_n_6122368.html. The dog's faced were extremely matted with food and feces; one of the dog's was missing a limb and lost its sight. The dogs are now being properly cared for by Pawmetto Lifeline with a long road ahead of them. We need to ensure these "parents" receive the ultimate maximum sentence for child neglect and 11 counts of felony animal cruelty, abuse and neglect.

Please help us to put these people away for a very long time for each count of abuse and ban them from pet ownership for the rest of their lives. They don't deserve to have that child either; she needs to be with people who will love and care for her in a manner she deserves.

Close HTWT; Fire Elephant Handlers & Trainers For Beating and Abusing the Animals

Please sign and share this petition in an effort to get the people fired at the Have Trunk Will Travel Group for beating and shocking their elephants; have the HTWT group shut down until they learn proper handling of the elephants. An animal activists organization caught the abuse on video at the hands of the trainers, owners and handlers. The group travels around to provide people rides on their elephants but they are actually abusing the animals that they provide for human entertainment. They need to fire those responsible and make Have Trunk Will Travel Group accountable for this abuse and cruelty of the elephants.

A special group travels around, especially throughout the summer season in order to provide elephant rides to people. However, while at the Six Flags Discover Kingdom, Animal Defenders International (ADI) secretly filmed Have Trunk Will Travel (HTWT). The video clearly shows the owners and trainers of the elephants beating them with sticks on their heads, using stun guns and beating animals with bull hooks and the elephants are chained so tightly that they cannot even move one step forward or backwards at least 12 hours daily. A baby elephant was noted being hit on its head and being dragged by its trunk. Even the HTWT boss of the group was noted viciously striking an elephant!

What is so appalling is that HTWT stands by these practices of training their elephants. They should be shut down and all abusers fired. After this evidence has gone viral, many special events has banned the use of elephant rides with HTWT, although Six Flags Discover Kingdom still chose to bring elephants from HTWT back to Discovery Kingdom again this summer. This should be so ashamed of themselves because they are literally promoting animal abuse by hiring HTWT!! Luckily, both HTWT and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom are no longer certified under the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), whose new guidelines advise limited contact between humans and elephants in line with modern elephant husbandry.

Daily Voice : Ban Sale of Puppy Mill Dogs in Massachusetts

Ban Sale of Puppy Mill Dogs in Massachusetts

The adorable puppy looking at you from the window of a pet store can’t tell you about the horrible conditions where he came from. But we can.

Dogs born in “puppy mills” are raised in horrific conditions. Crowded in filthy cages with little or no chance to socialize, these puppies have never slept in a warm bed or scampered around outside with a favorite toy. Veterinary care, if provided at all, is minimal.

Meanwhile, their parents are bred as often as possible, and may live their entire lives without seeing the outside world. When these dogs are no longer profitable for breeding, they are often euthanized.

It's time to put these puppy mills out of business! MA State Rep. Bruce Ayers, a sponsor of the comprehensive PAWS Act, is drafting a bill that will ban the sale of puppy mill dogs in MA stores.

We need to show Rep. Ayers our support – and urge him to propose the bill as soon as possible! The time to act is now.

Take action today and show MA State Rep. Bruce Ayers that you stand by him. Together, we can ban cruel and inhumane puppy mills... but we have to act now.

Daily Voice : Dog Shooting Mayor of Walnut Grove, Missouri Has To Go
« Reply #503 on: November 25, 2014, 12:00:13 AM »
Dog Shooting Mayor of Walnut Grove, Missouri Has To Go

In October, 2014, a stray female Border Collie with puppies was traumatized by Mayor Jim Cole and police officers of Walnut Grove, Missouri. Her puppies were grabbed, she was chased, tasered by the police and the mayor shot her with a shotgun. As she lay in agony, the mayor went back to his car, got his handgun and finished killing her. Rescues had offered to take the dog. The mayor had numerous other options such as using a catch pole, a humane trap or a net. A local vet had offered to come over with a tranquilizing dart gun.  Rescues were not called and the vet's offer was not utilized.

Attempting to defend his actions, the mayor claimed the dog was vicious. The dog was not vicious and several people in the community, including myself had fed her over several months, attempting to get close to her. She had been dumped and had been so traumatized by her last owner that no one could get close to her. However, humane methods were available to the City of Walnut Grove to capture her. Given the chance with an experienced rescue person, the dog could have been socialized. Why would a mayor decide to shoot a dog instead of saving it and why would he use a shotgun to cause as much pain and suffering as possible? Clearly, Mr. Cole needs to find a different vocation.

Please take a moment to both email and call Walnut Grove City Hall and ask them to demand the resignation of the mayor and to educate themselves on modern methods of animal rescue. Walnut Grove City Hall: 417-788-2596 Email: [email protected]  (The Humane Society of Missouri has been contacted in this matter but your phone calls and emails will be helpful.)
