Daily Voice : Stop Development From Endangering Threatened Utah Prairie Dogs!

Stop Development From Endangering Threatened Utah Prairie Dogs!

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has granted permits to Garfield and Iron counties to expand development on the Utah prairie dog's habitat. Development would kill more than 8,000 prairie dogs over three years!Friends of Animals has issued a lawsuit against the USFWS. The animal advocates claim that the permits are classified as "incidental take permits". And rightly so! An incidental take means harassing, killing or degrading protected animals' habitat. The Utah prairie dog is classified as 'threatened'. Human development would be a clear degradation of their habitat. To make matters worse, the USFWS didn't follow federal law in granting the permits. There was no environmental analysis and no biological opinions were advised.
We need to speak out now to protect these threatened creatures! Sign the petition to call on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to revoke these illegal permits and protect the Utah prairie dog's habitat!

Save Monarch Butterflies

Monarch butterflies urgently need your help. This iconic, orange-and-black beauty was once common in backyards across the country -- but its population has plummeted by 90 percent from the 20-year average.Monarchs must have Endangered Species Act protection to save their habitat from further destruction. These delicate creatures weigh less than a gram, but every year they travel thousands of miles -- from Canada down to Mexico -- in an incredible, multigenerational migration. Generations of schoolchildren have learned about metamorphosis by watching monarch caterpillars transform into butterflies. But the milkweed that monarchs depend on for survival is now being wiped out by genetically engineered, herbicide-resistant crops, as well as pesticides, human development and climate change. Please sign our petition below -- ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect monarch butterflies under the Endangered Species Act before it's too late.

FUR FARM ALIVE ANIMAL FLAY IN CHINA MUST BE STOPPED

Fur farms in China are loaded with Animals including dogs and cats which are also being kidnapped from their families. They are delivered in a catastrophic conditions, held in small cages and discharged from over 3 meter height buses while their bones are crushed. Then they slaughter them, skin these poor animals alive!!! Then they throw their still alive bodies away, hearts of these animals beat 10 minutes after they are skinned. Their pain must be unbearable. They die in a horrific and painful agony. We need to stop their tortures and ask for creation of the procedures in which these animals have to be kept and killed. We probably won't stop the fur business but at least we can help to stop their inhumane abuse and agony and ask the Minister of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China to set up the organization which will check the fur farms and protect the Animals. Please take the action!

Haitian Children Deserve to Be Safe Instead of Vulnerable in Tent Cities

While the worldâ??s attention may have moved on from Haiti, thousands of Haitians are barely surviving in tent cities with no running water and no electricity. Families live at a subsistence level, highly vulnerable to disease and despair.

Ruthless gangs control the tent cities and physical and sexual violence are the norm. Women are violated every day and it's far too dangerous for children to play outside. But what protection do these families really have when they live under a tarp draped over a few poles?

Please sign to pledge to help Haitian children who live in dangerous tent cities. Your signature declares that you believe in a child's basic right to safety. By signing, you also indicate that you want to help children and families find a place to live where they can feel safe.

Don't Punish India For Developing Solar Power!

The Obama Administration has been advocating green energy sources to combat climate change, so why is it now taking action against India's efforts to develop solar power?
The U.S. is concerned with India's policy to source solar energy technology locally, and is seeking the World Trade Organization to enforce against this policy. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman says this policy discriminates against U.S. exports, which he claims breaks WTO rules.
India is currently reliant on coal and needs to transition toward solar energy to improve environmental health. The health of the planet should take priority over petty trade wars, and India should be free to use their own resources rather than exports if they choose. Please sign the petition to urge the U.S. Government to let India continue developing solar power!

Daily Voice : Tell President Obama: Stop Marine Seismic Blasting

Tell President Obama: Stop Marine Seismic Blasting

The Obama Administration made a huge mistake by authorizing the use of deadly seismic blasting off the U.S. East Coast. These blasts threaten to injure or kill up to 138,200 marine mammals — including endangered North Atlantic right whales — and will devastate coastal communities who depend on tourism, fishing, and coastal recreation.

Let's show the Obama Administration that we will not stand by and watch in silence as they destroy our natural resources.

Join me today in telling the Obama Administration that their decision is severely flawed and we won't let them allow seismic blasting permits that damage our coastal life and communities!

Protect Appalachia's Streams and Rivers From Mountaintop Removal Mining Pollution!

Before the blasting begins, and long after the blasting stops, mountaintop removal poisons water in Appalachian communities.

Countless families have fought to protect their homes and land from dangerous mining pollution that flows into the nearby streams, contaminating the watershed and well water for drinking. Inaction from the state to protect communities and families leaves them with little choice but to abandon their homes and the land they love.

Luckily when the states fail to protect the health of Appalachia families and communities, the EPA still can.

Tell the EPA to act on its own science and issue a legally binding water quality conductivity standard to protect streams and communities in Appalachia from mountaintop removal mining pollution.

Daily Voice : Tell ABC Family to Cancel Alice in Arabia
« Reply #431 on: September 13, 2014, 01:15:03 PM »
Tell ABC Family to Cancel Alice in Arabia

ABC Family is planning to air a TV drama, "Alice in Arabia," that will only perpetuate racist stereotypes of Arabs and Muslims and stoke Islamophobia. ABC Family Network must cancel "Alice in Arabia" and create programming that accurately portrays Arabs and Muslims today.
"Alice in Arabia" is about a "rebellious teenage American girl" who is kidnapped by her Saudi Arabian relatives and finds herself a "virtual prisoner in her grandfather's royal compound." The show makes a point of setting Muslim values and beliefs against American ones. Alice has an "independent spirit," according to ABC. In contrast, Alice describes Muslim values as "extreme," according to Buzzfeed.
"Alice in Arabia" is full of cultural inaccuracies.  Alice's "royal grandfather" is depicted as an "evil sheikh." Other characters are, as BuzzFeed observes, caricatures of Arab men as "sinister" and Arab women as oppressed.
"Alice in Arabia" only reinforces simplistic stereotypes of Arabs and Muslims. That's why we need to tell ABC Family to cancel this TV show, go back to the drawing board and -- in consultation with Arab and Muslim communites -- come up with a show that portrays Arabs and Muslims accurately.
