Demand the Australian government keeps its word - no cuts to the ABC

The Australian government has broken a key election promise by cutting funding to the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) and cancelling the ABC's contract to run the Australia Network.
The Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, gave his word on the night before the 2013 election: “No cuts to the ABC ...” The ABC is a non-profit (non-commercial) provider of news and entertainment, and as such, is seen as providing information free of commercial influences.
ABC managing director Mark Scott says the cut is likely to be about $120 million over four years, with more to come.
However, it has been reported that the government is going to announce more ABC cuts in October in the vicinity of $50 to $100 million.
The ABC provides services (TV, radio, online) to metropolitan and regional areas. It is especially seen as a lifeline for those living in remote areas.
Please sign and share the petition to demand the Australian government makes no cuts to the ABC.

Demand That City Discipline Cop for Forcing Man to Abandon His Dog by Road

On July 13, 2014, Josie Garcia's husband and a friend were pulled over by the Houston police for failing to use a turn signal. When a search of the vehicle turned up a controlled substance on the person of the passenger, both men were arrested and their truck towed. Garcia's little dog, a 14-year-old blind Chihuahua, was also in that truck.
Despite pleas from Mr. Garcia -- and despite the fact that Houston's animal control facility was a mere two blocks away -- the police officer refused to make any provisions for the care of Guero. He refused to allow Garcia to call his wife to pick up the dog. He also refused to make any calls himself to ensure Guero was picked up and properly cared for.
Outrageously, the police office told Garcia his dog would be fine and forced him to leave it by the side of a busy Houston roadway. After the family was finally alerted later that day, they couldn't find Guero.
Three days later, his little body was found on the shoulder of the road about half a mile away. He'd been run over by a car. The family, as expected, is devastated.
The Garcias have filed a complaint with the Houston Police Department. This matter is now under investigation by Internal Affairs. Please sign this petition asking Houston Mayor Annelise Parker, City of Houston Chief of Police C.A. McClelland, and the Houston City Council (1) to ensure the police officer involved in this unprofessional incident is appropriately disciplined and (2) to review the city's policies on how to handle pets that become involved in police incidents, to ensure this kind of tragedy never happens again.

Demand That the BLM Prevent a Predator-Killing Contest!

A â??hunters' rightsâ? organization has formally requested a federal permit to hold a multi-year predator-killing derby in Idaho — on national public lands!

If approved this will be the second competitive wolf-killing competition held in Idaho - and no predator will be safe!

If you think it canâ??t get worse, consider this: The proposed event would take place every winter for five years when wolves and other wildlife are most vulnerable out foraging for food in the snow and extreme cold.

Please stand with us, and call on the BLM to immediately deny this outrageous request!

Daily Voice : Release Transgender Woman Raped By Inmate!

Release Transgender Woman Raped By Inmate!

A 23-year-old transgender woman named Marichuy has been held at a Phoenix, Ariz. immigrant detention center for over a year. Authorities refused to acknowledge her gender identity and have placed her with male inmates where she is a walking target for abuse. On July 20, she said one of her male inmates raped her.
The detention center is run by Corrections Corporation of America, under a contract from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In a statement, ICE claimed, “ICE has a strict zero tolerance policy for any kind of abusive or inappropriate behavior in its facilities and takes any allegations of such mistreatment very seriously.”
Unfortunately, ICE has not been able to protect Marichuy from abuse, and she continues to be held inappropriately with males. The only way to prevent further instances of abuse is to release Marichuy from the detention center. Please sign the petition to urge US Immigration to protect Marichuy from rape and other abuse!

Sexual use of Animals is legal in Denmark!!!! Help us stop this evil and make it illegal!

About this Petition

In Denmark, it is legal to have sex with an animal! Please sign this petition to demand that the Danish government create a law to make it illegal to have sex with animals.
Rape, torture, and abuse of animals is prohibited in Denmark, but the line between "use" and "abuse" is dangerously thin. This however is besides the point. We as a people cannot, should not and will not condone the sexual (ab)use of animals. This is a very sick missing law, and here in Denmark it has led not only to people engaging in sex with animals, but even the creation of "animal brothels" where people pay to have sex with animals.
This is an appalling lack of justice and it needs to end NOW.
While sexual use of animals in Denmark is allowed, we need everybody's voice to try and change this. Denmark can be somewhat stubborn about some changes, so it is essential that people everywhere help us make way for better welfare for all animals by signing this petition to show there is support for changing this law. In the words of Neil Armstrong "This is one small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind."
Help us ban abuse, torture and sexual assault all over the world, starting in our own back yard.
Thank you.

Daily Voice : Big Oil Must Stop Poisoning Communities
« Reply #405 on: August 18, 2014, 01:01:29 PM »
Big Oil Must Stop Poisoning Communities

There are nearly 150 oil refineries nationwide, and each year they pollute the air in communities with a toxic soup of carcinogens, neurotoxins, and hazardous metals, including benzene, hydrogen cyanide, hydrofluoric acid, arsenic, and lead.

For these communities, this toxic air pollution means increased risk of cancer, respiratory problems, hospitalizations, and premature death. That's why the EPA has proposed stronger clean air standards to control pollution from refineries.

Act now to ensure the EPA protects communities from toxic refinery pollution. Big Oil will fight back hard, so your voice is critical for protecting our health.

Daily Voice : Say NO to Chinese Greyhound Racing Stadiums

Say NO to Chinese Greyhound Racing Stadiums

The Irish Greyhound Board was considering shipping some of its greyhounds to the People's Republic of China so the Chinese can introduce greyhound racing to that country, - but the Irish Department of Agriculture refused to approve the proposal to export Irish greyhounds to China.
However, The Irish Greyhound Board is continuing to explore the possibility of helping to manage Chinese greyhound stadiums. It previously held talks with Beijing authorities about establishing a multi-million-euro greyhound franchise in China.
We urge members of The Irish Greyhound Board to stop support for greyhound racing in China due to the lack of animal welfare standards in the People's Republic of China. Further, we urge an end greyhound racing in Ireland as a way to fostering a public understanding of and respect for the humane treatment of animals in Ireland.

Daily Voice : Ban Moose Hunting
« Reply #407 on: August 20, 2014, 01:03:19 PM »
Ban Moose Hunting

Scientists have been unable to find the cause of the dramatic moose population decline in regions of Canada and across the United States. They speculate the causes may be many- from global warming to parasites- in an attempt to explain why moose are dying at an unprecedented rate across North America.
Of the two moose populations in Minnesota, one population has dropped from 4000 to less than 100 since the 1990's. The other population has declined 25%.
Unregulated hunting may also play a role in moose mortality. In New Hampshire, moose were hunted out of existence during Colonial times; they returned to the state only in the 1970's.
While the cause of the death is still a mystery to science, we ask for a moratorium on moose hunting in the United States. While over-hunting and poaching may not be the only cause, it isn't helping moose populations. Hunters may take from the ecosytem the healthy moose that may be the only hope for moose recovery. Furthermore, please consider listing moose as a threatened species.
