Daily Voice : Help Make Healthcare More Affordable

Help Make Healthcare More Affordable

Each year, 240 million Americans use over-the-counter (OTC) medicines as treatment for a range of health and wellness needs. As our nation searches for cost-effective and convenient healthcare options, the value of OTC medicines cannot be overlooked.
â?¢   For every dollar spent on OTC medicines, the U.S. healthcare system saves $6 to 7.
â?¢   This adds up to $102 billion in annual savings relative to alternatives.

But, in 2011, Congress removed OTC medicine eligibility under tax-preferred accounts, including flexible spending arrangements (FSAs) or health savings accounts (HSAs), unless the medicine was purchased with prescription â?? an unnecessary burden on consumers and health professionals. 45 million individuals have HSAs and FSAs for their healthcare spending for themselves and their families.

Support 'The Restoring Access to Medication Act,' which would reinstate OTC eligibility and allow FSA and HSA holders to use tax-preferred accounts to purchase OTC medicines.

Don't Let Private Owners Sell Untraceable Guns Without Background Checks!

More and more businesses are accepting digital currency as payment for goods sold online. Although this can be convenient, it can also be yet another way to get around background checks on gun sales. For example, just last week a Texas-based maker of an expensive high-powered rifle announced it would start accepting a cyber currency called Bitcoin, which allows buyers to hide their identity. Even though this particular company is federally licensed and does run background checks, under current laws in most states private gun companies don’t have to run these checks!Already some private sellers openly advertise that they’ll sell guns to people who wouldn’t likely pass a background check, and Bitcoin will just make it that much easier for guns to get in the hands of the wrong people.Don't let private owners sell untraceable guns without background checks!Ask Congress to pass a gun bill that will expand background checks to all gun sales.

Tell Facebook to take down the "I Hate Dogs - the Only Good Dog is a Dead Dog" page!

This page incites hatred against dogs and I believe calls for like-minded people to hurt or kill dogs.
I tried to have FB remove the page and the following was their response:

Tell Sri Lanka- Don't Donate Elephant Tusks to Religion

The government in Sri Lanka has plans to give 359 illegal elephant tusks from hundreds of butchered elephants to a Buddhist temple, the Sri Dalada Maligawa Buddhist Temple. The tusks were seized in Sri Lanka while being transported to Dubai from Kenya.
The demand for ivory used for religious handicrafts by Buddhists, (and Catholics- many crosses are made of ivory), is making the the poaching crises worse; 25,000 elephants were illegally slaughtered for their ivory tusks- and the brutal massacre is continuing.
Gifting the Buddhist temple, (a third party), violates Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Additionally, Kenya wants the ivory back to use as exhibit in case of any arrest.
Tell the Sri Lanka to stop fueling the demand for religous ivory, (termed "Ivory Worship" by National Geographic). Even the Vatican recently condemned elephant poaching as against Catholic values. Sri Lankan's who revere elephants should not condone this bood ivory and mass murder.

Daily Voice : Tell the Port Authority to Stop Shooting Animals!
« Reply #373 on: July 16, 2014, 01:00:12 PM »
Tell the Port Authority to Stop Shooting Animals!

Since 2008, the Port Authority has killed nearly 6,000 animals, mostly birds, that have moved too close to airport runways. Their animal control efforts increased significantly after a flock of Canada geese collided with US Airways flight 1549, an incident that caused no loss of human life.
The Port Authority's actions have had no significant impact on animal collisions, according to the Star Ledger's analysis of Port Authority and Federal Aviation Administration data. Yet the slaughter has skyrocketed in the past five years. In 2008, for example, only 10 animals were killed at Newark's airport, but 1,267 were killed two years later.
These wildlife control efforts are worthless and cruel. If the Port Authority wants to rid airports of animals, they can make habitats around the airport less attractive. This would be a humane, long-term solution. Please sign the petition to tell the Port Authority to stop shooting animals!

Iran: Release Reporter Detained for Protests and Anti-State Propaganda

Iranian reporter Marzieh Rasouli writes about literature for reformist newspapers and on her blog, Three Days Ago. She has been sentenced to two years in prison and 50 lashes for participating in street protests in 2009 and writing "anti state propaganda." The incidents for which she was arrested included working with BBC Persian. BBC Persian, which is staffed by Iranian expatriots in London denies employing anyone in Iran. Rasouli later was accused of cooperating with British intelligence services.
Rasouli explained via Twitter that she had been convicted of “propaganda against the establishment and disruption of public order through participation in gatherings.”
Arrest reports don't specify work with BBC Persian, but instead focus on Rasouli's blog writing and participation in protests.
Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, has spoken about the need to relax restrictions on free speech. Tell President Rouhani and the Iranian government to release Rasouli and stop persecuting journalists for exercising free speech and participating in protests!

Daily Voice : Israel: Stop Imprisoning Palestinians with your Wall

Israel: Stop Imprisoning Palestinians with your Wall

Covered in wire and sniper towers, Israel's Apartheid Wall cuts off Palestinians from schools and hospitals, stealing their land and ultimately their freedom.

Some are forced to go through the Wall's military checkpoints, like 20 year old Nagham, pictured above, who is harassed and questioned on a daily basis as she crosses the checkpoint to get to university.

It's now 10 years since the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared the construction of Israel's Apartheid Wall in the West Bank illegal under international law. Despite this, the British government conducts business as usual with Israel.

War on Want is campaigning for an end to British government ties with Israel until it complies with international law. Public pressure is vital if we are to force the UK government to impose sanctions on Israel.

TAKE ACTION NOW: call on Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, to ensure the British government stops aiding and assisting Israel until it fully complies with international law.
