Daily Voice : Stop Testing Nicotine on Animals
« Reply #352 on: June 25, 2014, 09:22:06 AM »
Stop Testing Nicotine on Animals

The tobacco industry and federal government both are still funding nicotine and smoking experiments on animals. Every year in the U.S., hundreds of animals are harmed and killed in experiments to test the effects of nicotine and tobacco.
In Defense of Animals points out, "Animal experiments failed to demonstrate that exposure to cigarettes and tobacco smoke caused lung and other forms of cancer, which is now undisputed in humans."
So the point of continuing these cruel experiments is WHAT? Other than to collect government funding? We don't want our tax money to go towards conducting nicotine experiments on pregnant and newborn animals - we already know that pregnant mothers should not smoke. Stop testing and torturing animals in useless experiments to collect goverment funding.

Daily Voice : Make Beastiality a Felony Crime in All 50 States

Make Beastiality a Felony Crime in All 50 States

In the United States, bestiality is officially illegal in 31 states.

17 states make beastiality a felony. They are: Alaska, Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington.

Fourteen states consider it a misdemeanor, those being: Arkansas, California, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wisconsin.

That means the remaining 19 states, and DC, have no laws prohibiting this type of animal abuse.

Enact a law that makes beastiality a felony and protects animals in all 50 states from sexual predators that believe sex without consent is acceptable. It isn't. It's rape- and abuse.

Peru- Stop Using Endangered Condors in Bullfights

Yawar Fiestas, are held each year in 38 villages across the Peruvian Andes at least once a year. Townspeople take turns running in front of a bull enraged by a condor tired into its back. A Condor is strapped to a bulls back and then they have a bullfight.
VIDEO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1gq24hrLQ0

The bird, long threatened with extinction, is tortured and abused as they pull at its wings, tie it onto a bull that's jumping and kicking and if it does not die then it flies away so traumatized it dies somewhere else. There are no more than 500 condors in Peru, and the population is in decline.

The condor's survival in Peru is also threatened by shrinking habitat due to development, including large mining projects in the highlands, the trafficking of its feathers and body parts and loss of food sources.

Stop this superstitious, traditional blood festival and protect the endangered Peruvian Condor.

Tell India's Prime Minister: Protection of Women MUST Be a Priority

The Indian Government strengthened laws on sexual violence last year following widespread outcry over the deadly gang rape of a student on a Delhi bus. But more atrocious sex crimes are being reported now in Uttar Pradesh. On May 29 two young teenaged girls who had been gang raped were found hanged by the neck from a tree in Badaun district - prompting a new wave of countrywide protests against sexual violence. This atrocity was followed by a number of similar cases and others that involved hanging alone. One rape reportedly occurred inside a police station in the same state where the teens were hanged. More recently two more teenaged girls were raped at knife-point while staying in a church-run hostel in southern Tamil Nadu state. All of the teen victims were believed to be under age 13. Though reports say these sex crimes, especially in Uttar Pradesh. are not new, the growing public outrage over them is bringing more cases to light.Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the press protection of India’s women should be a priority. Tell Modi to change "should" to “must,” and make sure to follow through.

Demand Brazil treat street dogs humanely through a dog management program

Please sign and share this petition worldwide in an effort to encourage Brazil to treat the street dogs in their country in a more humane manner by possibly implementing special dog management programs for the health and safety of the dogs. We do not want these poor animals to endure the pain and demise at this time of the World Cup Events and beyond, like they did during the Sochi, Russia Olympics.
Many are concerned that the stray dogs roaming the streets of Brazil will meet a fatal end similar to the demise of so many canines in Sochi prior to the Olympics. With the onset of the World Cup in Brazil, animal welfare is accusing Brazil of such poor practices with the hopes of finding a better way to handle the stray dog conditions. Officials in Brazil deny the removal of animals has taken place but campaigners say eyewitness accounts of dogs being seized are genuine.
Humane Society International (HSI) is urging the mayor’s office in Recife, Brazil, to stop a plan of removal of the animals and instead put in place a humane street dog management program. In their written request, they ask that the street dog populations be humanely and effectively managed through sterilization and vaccination.
Long-term sterilization and vaccination are the only street dog management methods that effectively address the issue. HSI is working with and supporting the efforts and campaigns of local organizations in Brazil, including no-cost sterilization and vaccination services to individuals caring for street dogs, known in Brazil as community dogs.
Let us encourage Brazil to implement some type of dog management program as this so that we do not have a repeat of what occurred in Sochi with horrific consequences. Algeria and Tunisia, Stop Forcing Victims to Marry their Rapists!

Asking rape victims to marry their rapists is unconscionable. Allowing the rapist to marry their teenage victims is wrong for the victim in a multitude of ways.
Rapists shouldn't be legally sanctioned to torment their victims further and escape punishment.
Allowing these laws to remain on the books and enforcing them makes these young women into lifelong victims. And letting these perpetrators to escape justice by furthering their crimes is ridiculous. Tell Algerian and Tunisian officials to remove these laws and stop further victimization of these young rape victims.

Daily Voice : Don't shut down a child's lending library!

Don't shut down a child's lending library!

UPDATE: Leawood City Council to re-examine the issue at a July 8 meeting
All 9-year-old Spencer Collins wanted was a collection of free books, shared by area residents - they could take or leave as many as they wanted. The son of a teacher, who himself loves to read, Spencer had the idea that his little library, in a homemade structure in front of his home, would not only encourage reading but also a community feeling among neighbors.
But Leawood, Kansas city officials claim Spencer's library violates a city ordinance, banning any freestanding structures or buildings that are not attached to a person's house. Spencer's family agrees with the law as a whole, but feels that in this particular case, it's being misapplied. Although they complied and took down the library, they plan to appeal at the next city council meeting.
Please, Leawood officials, show this child that you value reading and community spirit as much as he does! His plan can only help area residents, not hurt in any way.
