Daily Voice : Send Love to Three Men for Rescuing a Dog Trapped in Snow

Send Love to Three Men for Rescuing a Dog Trapped in Snow

On March 1, 2014, Brian Stewart and his teenage sons Erik and Tyler were enjoying their

annual snow camping trek trip near Granite Meadows, Ore., when they heard frantic barks.

The teenagers investigated and expected to find a dog playing in the snow with his owner,

but instead they found and exhausted and lonely Airedale terrier trapped in more than 3 ft. of snow.

The three men from Pendleton, Ore., knew they couldn’t leave the four-legged friend stranded in the snow, and that is why Brian Stewart asked his sons to head back

to camp and bring a sled to rescue the pet.

Once back and safe at camp the Stewart family warmed up the pet inside one of their tents

with a portable heater. They also offered the tired dog some food and water.

“I got the dog to the creek to get him some water,” Brian told StatesmanJournal.com

“He was drinking the water like he hadn’t seen it in days. Then he was hurting

and so tired he could not make it out of the creek.”

After some time, the dog started to feel better all thanks to the cozy heat and food

the Stewart family offered him. The stranded and lost was later taken to a friend’s farm

near Birch Creek, where he is being looked after, and since his rescue,

the three hero men have been trying to locate the dog’s rightful owners.

“This dog fought hard through 3 ft. of snow for a few days,” said Brian. “He has a right to his owner.”

If anyone has any information on the dog’s identity,

or who he belongs to, please call 541-429-2489.

Daily Voice : We Have One Month To Save Hospital Services.
« Reply #266 on: March 28, 2014, 12:00:26 AM »
We Have One Month To Save Hospital Services.

America's hospitals provide world-class patient care to millions of people, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

And right now, they are in trouble.

Hospitals have been hit with an astounding $22.5 billion in federal budget cuts in the last six months alone. This pales in comparison to what they face in March.

A permanent adjustment to the historically flawed formula by which physicians are paid under Medicare could mean billions more in cuts to hospital services.  Every dollar cut means longer lines at the ER, a greater risk of trauma centers closing their doors, and reduced access to cutting-edge medical technology.

Hospitals are there for us in our times of need. Now, we need to be there for them. Tell your members of Congress: No more devastating cuts to America's hospitals.

Pledge to LIFT People Out of Poverty

Today in the United States, the richest country in the world, there are more than 46 million people living in poverty and struggling to make ends meet. And we know that many of them need more than financial assistance. They need help navigating complex systems in our changing economy. They need help devising a plan forward. They need people in their corner and confidence in their ability to achieve their goals.

At LIFT, we take a people-powered approach to fighting poverty: Our Members work side by side with Advocates and Advisors to build the strong personal, social, and financial foundations they need to get ahead.

If each of us could commit to taking a few small actions to support those in our neighborhood struggling with poverty, we could help give individuals the strength and courage to succeed and create a stronger community.

Together, we can lift people out of poverty for good. Pledge to help us #LIFT4GOOD today.

Save Seals: Urge Canada to Stop Seal Slaughter with a Federal Buyout

Did you know that less than 5% of a sealer's annual income comes from the Canadian seal hunt? The vast majority (over 95%) of their income comes from commercial fishing.

This is why a federal buyout makes so much sense. Sealers don't need the seal hunt to make a living. The concept is simple: rather than wasting tax money on a hunt with no market, the Canadian government can actually save money by offering to pay sealers a fair dollar amount to give up their license to kill.

Veterinarians say Canada's commercial seal slaughter is inherently inhumane and nations are taking action by banning trade in seal products. Yet the Canadian government still authorizes the cruel slaughter of hundreds of thousands of seals each year — even using government funds to finance the purchase of seal pelts.

Each year, our team witnesses conscious, wounded baby seals left to suffer in agony — impaled on metal hooks, dragged across the ice, and cut open — all for their pelts to be stockpiled in a warehouse. Even Newfoundland sealers with an opinion support a federal sealing industry buyout. With this plan, the seal slaughter would end, sealers would receive financial compensation, and economic alternatives would be developed.

Please ask Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to end the slaughter once and for all with a federal sealing industry buyout.

Daily Voice : Help to Find the Dog Stolen with the Car

Help to Find the Dog Stolen with the Car

A man is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of his missing dog, Miles.

The Cocker Spaniel-Papillon rescue dog was in the backseat of Larry Burgoon’s 2014 black Honda Civic

when it was stolen from an Orange, California gas station. The man doesn’t care about the car,

he just wants his dog back.

Burgoon was on his way to work on Wednesday and stopped at a Chevron for coffee around 4:45 am.

He regretfully left the keys in the ignition, and seconds later, thieves made off with his car.

Moments after Burgoon pulled up, a newer white Ford F-150 pickup truck pulled into the station.

A woman acted as a lookout while one of the two men inside of the truck got into the Honda and took off.

“I did a double take,” Burgoon said. “I go, ‘Where’s my car?’”

“I go, ‘Ma’am, my dog is in there.’” I opened the door and told the clerk, ‘Call police, they stole my car

with the dog in there, I gotta find Miles.’”

This dog means the world to Burgoon and his fiancée. They even postponed their wedding when Miles collapsed

and needed to undergo life-saving surgery. He says the dog is “like my son.”

“We postponed our wedding to get Miles well. Now he’s 100 percent today,” Burgoon said. “He took somebody

we love, Miles, and we’re just asking for Miles back.”

The police are searching for the three people involved in the theft. The first is a white or Latino man

with a shaved head, who at the time was wearing tan pants and a black sweatshirt.

The woman is either white or Latina with long dark hair, and was wearing

blue jeans and a black sweatshirt. The third person could not be seen on the surveillance video.

Anyone with information should please call the Orange Police Department

at 714-744-7444.

“I’m not worried about the vehicle,” Burgoon said. “I’m worried about getting Miles back.

The car, the contents of the car, they’re replaceable. Miles is not.”

Please, help this man get his dog back.

Daily Voice : SAVE SAN DIEGO OPERA

SAVE SAN DIEGO OPERA

SAN DIEGO OPERA MAKES MUSIC WORTH SAVING!

We are shocked and dismayed by the sudden decision of the San Diego Opera
Board of Directors to shut the company's doors.  The board believes that a decline in recent attendance indicates that the people of San Diego no longer want world class opera in their hometown.  The decision was made without any public quorum and without looking into other solutions to keep San Diego Opera alive, even as the company has no debt!  This decision will result in the following:

1. Loss of hundreds of good middle class jobs and careers in the entertainment industry.

2. Closure of San Diego's third largest cultural institution and tenth largest opera company in America.

3. Decline in musical exposure for San Diego schools, students, and residents at large.

4. Decrease in revenue for surrounding small businesses, hotels, and restaurants.

DON'T FOLD, REVOTE!

We have until April 13, 2014 to convince the board to reverse the decision and keep San Diego Opera alive, but we need your help! Let's prove to the board that the people of San Diego:

1. Believe San Diego Opera makes music worth saving.

2. Have interest in attending an opera in the 2015 season.

3. Regard San Diego Opera as an important San Diego cultural institution.

4. Want an opera company more representative of the community, even if it means changes in leadership and direction.

Sign this petition and help us convince the San Diego Opera Board of Directors to keep opera alive in San Diego.
