Daily Voice : GOP Governors: Allow Low-Income Diabetics to Get Medical Care!

GOP Governors: Allow Low-Income Diabetics to Get Medical Care!

26 million people in the United States have diabetes, and 79 million more are at risk for type 2 diabetes or are pre-diabetic. This disease is especially a problem for the poor, and millions of them are left without access to health care. So why are GOP governors turning down Obamacare's Medicaid expansion that could help them get health coverage?

Uninsured diabetics are less likely to get the medical supplies and services they need, go to regular check-ups, or have a reliable source of care at all. They are also forced to pay way higher out of pocket, and sometimes this is impossible.

Unfortunately, many of the GOP governors who wouldn't take the Medicaid expansion are in states with above average diabetes rates such as North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Also, all of these states have above average poverty rates as well.

Please tell these GOP governors to expand Medicaid and make sure that poor diabetics have access to medical care!

Daily Voice : Demand a Ban on Fracking in Canada

Demand a Ban on Fracking in Canada

People across Canada are being forced to stand up to â??Big Oil and Gasâ? whose fracking operations are threatening their drinking water. Alberta farmers who live near fracking drill sites can light their tap water on fire because it's so contaminated with methane. The Fort Nelson First Nation in northeastern B.C. is experiencing earthquakes linked to the injection of fracking wastewater. People in Ontario are raising concerns over fracking around the Great Lakes. And across Atlantic Canada people are taking to the streets to protect their communities from the controversial industry.

Fracking - also known as hydraulic fracturing - is a process used to extract natural gas or oil trapped in shale rock and coal beds. And it's one of the biggest threats to clean water today. Oil and gas companies blast apart underground rock formations using pressurized water, sand and a mix of toxic chemicals that they are not legally required to disclose, despite the fact that some have been known to cause cancer and damage internal organs.

Millions of litres of water are extracted every day from community watersheds across Canada to fuel this booming industry. There is currently no federal oversight to keep the industry in check, or to protect the health of people and our drinking water. Itâ??s time the Canadian government puts a ban on fracking.

Save Florida Manatees, Sea Turtles From Dredging and Blasting

Please add your name to this petition to help protect endangered manatees and sea turtles from a destructive plan proposed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

For all the sea traffic that it currently supports, Lake Worth Inlet is full of life. Three kinds of sea turtles hatch their eggs on the beaches just to the north and south of the port, and nearly 600 endangered manatees have been reported in the warm-water refugia here at one time. Lake Worth Lagoon is also home to a number of quieter beauties: soft corals, sponges and gently waving seagrasses.

The reef and sea-grass habitats would be destroyed if the Army Corps continues with their plan. The Corps wants to bring in enormous machines called dredges that would scrape the entire bottom of the inlet to make way for big ships. This plan places a higher value on cold, economic efficiency and bulk commodities like cement and sugar.

Take action now and urge the Corps to recheck the math on its balance sheet; the costs of this project to our state's precious plants and wildlife is something we simply can't afford.

Daily Voice : Help the forgotten Romanian horses!
« Reply #260 on: March 23, 2014, 02:26:50 PM »
Help the forgotten Romanian horses!

Romanian farmers own two or three horses, which carve a miserable existence throughout their entire life. They are being forced to work and being abused until death. The mentality of the farmers is to leave the animals outside during the cold winter, thirsty and hungry, arguing that a horse who does not work needs no food.

If they can no longer continue to run on from sheer exhaustion, their genitals are often hit or set on fire. As an EU country, Romania must be forced to put a bill through that obliges farmers to vaccinate, deworm, microchip the horses and provide for a reasonable accomodation, if they do not want to comply, they must be prohibited to keep horses. Frequent checks would urge these farmers to treat the horses with more compassion and respect. Animal cruelty should be punished with harsh emprisonment. No horse deserves to have to pull excessive heavy loads while being injured, being neglected, being abused, only to eventually end up in a slaughterhouse.

Please support our petition to make it possible that the terribly tortured horses in Romania get a better life.

Well yes Christians are suffering in the third world and all over the world.  This doesn't make causing unnecessary pain and suffering through neglect and abuse 'okay' and worth ignoring because it is an animal.  Are we not supposed to be good keepers of animals and watch over them?

We cannot ignore aspects of life as they come up because there is somewhere or something else going on.  Equally I don't think we are supposed to get heavily laidened by trying to do everything everywhere, we are not God we are human.

Makes you wonder someones mindset towards people if they can willingly cause such abhorrent suffering to animals.

Daily Voice : Stop Abuse Against 'Brick Donkeys' in Nepal

Stop Abuse Against 'Brick Donkeys' in Nepal

Countless working equines face unspeakable abuse in Nepal's brick factories. While carrying bricks to and fro the kilns, equines are overloaded, overworked and continuously beaten. Most are made to work till they drop, literally. Animal Nepal since 2008 conducts mobile clinics and education programmes. It has also been in the forefront of a movement to promote 'clean and green bricks' instead of 'blood bricks' causing severe environmental damage while being produced at the expense of donkeys, as well as child workers and bonded labourers.

Today sign this petition to urge the government to stop equine abuse, and force the brick industry to become responsible.
