Daily Voice : Ask Warner Bros. to Ensure Harry Potter Chocolates are Slavery Free

Ask Warner Bros. to Ensure Harry Potter Chocolates are Slavery Free

In the cocoa fields of the Ivory Coast, child slavery is 'normal.' It's routine. It's accepted. Children as young as 7 are sold -- deprived of their childhood, ripped from their families, and subjected to routine abuse -- to work long, backbreaking days picking cocoa. And it all stems from our love of chocolate.

While many chocolate brands have made public commitments to find the best solution, Warner Bros. is lagging behind:

1. An independent investigation into their supplier Behr's Chocolates led to a failing score of 1 out of 48 possible measures to ensure their operations are slavery-free;

2. Warner Bros. dismissed the findings of the investigation, simply stating that they were 'satisfied' that fair labour practices were being used in the production of their chocolates;

3. Given the conflicting information, outraged consumers asked Warner Bros. what steps were taken to ensure there was no slavery in Harry Potter Chocolates. Warner Bros. refused to respond.

As we head into one of the busiest times of the year for Warner Bros. theme parks, children excited to experience the world of Harry Potter will be asking their parents to buy these chocolates. That's why taking a stand right now will make a big impact.

Ask Warner Bros. what steps they're taking to ensure Harry Potter chocolates are slavery-free.

Make the Olympics humane ! STOP Sochi City Hall Orders to kill Stray Dogs

Short before the Olympics will start which supposed to be he most expensive Olympics ever, the russian authorities of Sochi decided to eliminate as many stray dogs as possible.

The don't even kill them in a quick way, they simply poison them and the poor pooches have to suffer up to 1 hour to die. WHO in their right mind can do such a cruel an evil thing? How can these monsters sleep at night?

"Stray dogs are not uncommon in Sochi and the surrounding area, and many tend to gather near construction sites where they are likely to get food and shelter from workers. They have even been able to get inside the Olympic Park.

Sorokin's company operates in the Krasnodar region, which encompasses Sochi and the neighboring area. Sorokin refused to say how many dogs they kill a year, calling it "a commercial secret."

"His company is involved in what he described as the "catching and disposing" of dogs. Sorokin refused to specify whether they shoot or poison dogs or say where they take the carcasses."

"

Sochi city hall last year announced a contract "to catch and dispose" of stray dogs in Sochi but animal activists vehemently protested the move. Authorities pledged to give up the practice and build animal shelters for stray dogs instead.

Activists say there is no evidence that a shelter has been built. The city hall would not immediately respond to the AP's calls and emails seeking comment.

Shooting stray dogs has been common practice in a lot of Russian regions despite activists' efforts to push authorities for more humane ways of dealing with the issue.""

Help Give Hope to Seniors Facing Hunger

Nearly 4 million seniors - grandparents, veterans, retirees - who live in food-insecure households often worry about whether to pay for food or medicine. Cynthia and Larry face this decision every day. They've never been rich, and after debilitating illness left Larry, a veteran, unable to work, they barely receive enough through their disability payments to get by.  This vulnerable group deserves better. And we can do better, especially in a nation that wastes billions of pounds of food each year.

As individuals, charities, businesses and government, we can join together and get food to those in need. Take a moment to honor a special senior in your life by pledging to speak up for those in need of food assistance.

Spread the word about the impact of hunger in your community and across the country, and urge your Member of Congress to take action on behalf of Americans who need it most, you can be a part of movement to end hunger in America. Together, We Can Solve Hunger... and it starts with you.

Take the pledge today and join our community to ensure seniors don't go hungry.

Daily Voice : Ban The Use of Live Ponies for Carousel Rides

Ban The Use of Live Ponies for Carousel Rides

Help us to put an end to live ponies being used in Spanish fairgrounds for children's carousel rides.

Here are just some of the reasons the use of real ponies for carousel rides is cruel and inhumane:

  • Ponies have barely any room to move

  • Ponies are denied basic rights to eat, drink, urinate and defecate freely

  • Ponies are subjected to continuous loud music causing profound deafness

  • Ponies undergo physical and mental exhaustion from endless circling

No animal deserves to be used for our entertainment! Join us in our fight by signing the petition to ban these cruel rides.

Campaign to remove Bengt Holst from his position at Copenhagen Zoo

Bengt Holst, the so-called Scientific Director at Copenhagen Zoo, should not in our opinion be in charge of a zoo and we the undersigned believe he should stand down or be removed from this post.

Three zoos, one in the UK, one in Sweden and one in The Netherlands, offered to take Marius the giraffe, a healthy, 18 month baby.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26098935

 The world is outraged.

Holst said Marius needed to be killed to protect the gene pool -- he was offered many homes which would have done this.

We call on Copenhagen Zoo to relieve him of his post - to not do so would cause outrage and most likely a permanent boycott of your establishment.

Call on Congress to Support the Water for the World Act

Americans like you who Believe in ZERO, through your support for UNICEF, help bring safe water and better hygiene to children every day. But UNICEF needs donor governments, including the U.S. Government, to help out.

That is the purpose of the bipartisan Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act (H.R. 2901). Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Ted Poe (R-TX) want to strengthen Americaâ??s ability to help improve access to clean water and sanitation for the most vulnerable people in the world. They build on the landmark Water for the Poor Act of 2005, which at long last made safe drinking water and sanitation a priority of U.S. foreign development assistance, helping children around the world survive and thrive.

Please contact your legislators and ask them to cosponsor and support this important piece of legislation!

Thereâ??s Still Time: Stop Enbridgeâ??s Risky Pipeline

On December 19, 2013, the National Energy Boardâ??s Joint Review Panel for the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project released a report claiming that the benefits of the pipeline outweigh its risks.

Clearly, thatâ??s not the case.

The reality is that Canadian citizens will take on the large-scale risk to our land and our water while multinational corporations and foreign refineries will take on the economic benefits.

The Conservatives have until June 17th to make a decision on Enbridgeâ??s risky project. That means there is still time to convince the Harper administration that Canadians do not want this pipeline.

Itâ??s not too late to make your voice heard.

Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver has acknowledged that public pressure could stop the construction of this pipeline:

â??In a democracy, governments are responsive to the will of the people. I think any government would take into account if there was a change of attitude.â?

-- Joe Oliver on the Northern Gateway pipeline, January 2, 2014

Act now -- add your name with thousands of other Canadians to tell the Harper Administration that this pipeline is not in your economic or environmental interest.

COPENHAGEN ZOO KILLED MARIUS - TELL THEM HOW YOU FEEL!!

On February 9th 2014, Copenhagen Zoo killed Marius, a healthy 18 month old giraffe, in an attempt to avoid in-breeding within the zoo. Marius was killed with a bolt gun to avoid contamination of his remains, in order that he could be fed to the tigers and other carnivores within the zoo.  His autopsy was then broadcast live on the internet and to visitors at the zoo.

This decision was made despite thousands of people worldwide signing online petitions appealing for his transfer to one of a number of zoos who were willing to provide Marius accomodation. The zoo argues that the decision was the right one, on scientific grounds and in relation to European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) rules on breeding.

The general public’s opinion globally has been overwhelming, with many people calling for a review of the Zoo’s policy on breeding and reflection on the value that should have been placed on Marius’s life regardless of the breeding issues involved.

Tell Copenhagen Zoo it is time for a thorough review of their current breeding policy and remind them that the public’s opinion DOES matter when it comes to deciding the fate of animals in their care.
