Daily Voice : Tell Amazon: Stop Selling Bluefin Tuna!

Tell Amazon: Stop Selling Bluefin Tuna!

Bluefin tuna made world headlines again this year with the annual auction in Tokyo of the year's first bluefin tuna. The fish, which sold for about $70,000 U.S., showcases the plight of bluefin tuna worldwide: Instead of being thrown a lifeline, these fish are tragic poster children for conspicuous consumption.

Although this price is a steep drop from the $1.76 million last year's auction garnered, unsustainable fishing continues to be a serious problem. Repeated international attempts to prohibit trade of Atlantic bluefin tuna have failed, most recently in 2010, as politicians bowed to industry interests. Meanwhile scientists discovered in 2013 that populations of Pacific bluefin tuna have declined by 96.4 percent compared to unfished levels.

It's time for consumers to take matters into our own hands. Do you ever use Amazon for online shopping? Did you know bluefin tuna is available there, frozen and in cans?

The Center for Biological Diversity's Bluefin Boycott has provided the grassroots backbone for petitions to protect these imperiled fish since November 2010, but confirmation of our worst fears for Pacific bluefin tuna in 2013 means we need to do more.

Act now to ask Amazon and its wholesalers to stop selling bluefin tuna.

Daily Voice : Stop the Mass-Killing of Romanian Dogs

Stop the Mass-Killing of Romanian Dogs

On the 25th September 2013, the Constitutional Court authorized the mass killing of Romania's stray dogs.

Under this new law, dogs will be kept in detention for 14 days in overcrowded dog shelters, and then killed if they are not claimed or adopted. This means that tens of thousands of dogs will be killed in the coming weeks.

History shows us that mass killing is not the solution. Stray and roaming dog populations can be managed in ways that are both effective and humane.

Help us stop the senseless killing of healthy dogs today. Urge the Romanian Prime Minister to suspend this cruel law immediately.

Tell the USDA: Protect Baby Tigers, Lions and Other Wild Animals

Baby tigers, lions, and other wild animals are frequently used by unscrupulous exhibitors for public handling, typically until they are just a few months old. The animals are then often discarded, with many ending up warehoused at roadside zoos and pseudo-sanctuaries or in the hands of unqualified people with private menageries.

There is no reason why any member of the public should ever have direct contact with wild animals and their cubs.

You now have the opportunity to object to this inhumane and dangerous activity. IFAW has joined other animal welfare organizations in a legal petition that urges the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ban all public contact and close encounters with big cats, bears, and primates.

Please sign this petition to urge the USDA to create a rule that finally prohibits all public contact with big cats and other wildlife species.

Save Swans from Eradication

"The New York swan population is in trouble. By 2025, the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) plans to kill all mute swans that currently occupy New York. The reasoning behind this induced extinction is not soundly based on science: essentially the birds serve as a nuisance, so they must be decimated. The mass murder of New York’s swans cannot be allowed to happen.

Save New York’s mute swans from being killed off by 2025, and support humane methods of controlling the swan population".

Daily Voice : Tell Winter Olympics City Not to Display Wild Orcas

Tell Winter Olympics City Not to Display Wild Orcas

Russia has recently started capturing wild orcas for display and export. As has become all too obvious in the last couple of decades, captivity is a terrible thing for orcas, even more so when they have been torn from the wild. A great deal of controversy has been aroused by America’s notorious SeaWorld, but it is not the only place exploiting killer whales.

The latest development is that host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics, Sochi in Russia, is getting involved. The city has a dolphinarium, and two wild-caught orcas are being flown in, seemingly in the hopes of making more money during the Winter Olympics.

The capture and display of orcas causes immense suffering to the whales, and poses a risk to human life – some animals become psychotic with the stress. It is not something that should be associated with an event as positive as the Olympics.

Tell Russia to release the orcas it has just caught and not become any further involved in this brutal practice.

Daily Voice : A declaration on our concern for the companion animals in the EU.
« Reply #207 on: January 27, 2014, 01:04:15 PM »
A declaration on our concern for the companion animals in the EU.

This is question and answer petition - on our mental health in the European Member States - that we want to convey to our politicians in the EU.

 Question to EU citizens:
Are your thoughts busy every day regarding the ongoing horrific abuse and suffering for many companion animals that live with bad owners or who are abandoned and unwanted in the EU?

Do you feel sick and feel mentally tired and sleep badly?

Maybe you're worried about your child's or your dog's safety if you live in a city and country with many abandoned dogs and cats? Toxic substances to kill abandoned animals, is often detected in parks and in areas where children are present.

You may also be concerned that your children, almost every day, are forced to witness cruelty to animals in your country?

 Answer:
Tell the EU in the petition how their indifference affects your life - and we will convey this to the politicians in EU - it is their fault and they must take responsibility over our illness - since they do nothing to change the treaties and help this excluded group of animals.

The picture shows the horrific enclosure Wojtyszki in Poland with over 3000 dogs.
Info about the stray dogs in Europe and the excluded animals
