Daily Voice : Draw the Line Against Attacks on Reproductive Rights

Draw the Line Against Attacks on Reproductive Rights

Texas is facing a health crisis right now. When a clearly unconstitutional law took effect last week, more than a dozen clinics in the state were forced to stop providing abortion services. One-third of Texas women are left without essential health care.

And it gets worse. The same law severely restricts the use of medication abortion, a safe and effective method to end an early pregnancy, and threatens health care providers with harsh and unnecessary regulations.

Extremist politicians claim that this law is for the "health and safety" of Texas women, but the truth is it's designed with a very different goal in mind: to eliminate abortion access entirely.

Texas isn't the only battleground in the ongoing fight for reproductive rights. In Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arkansas, and beyond, anti-choice legislators are working overtime to deny women essential health care. This is a national problem -- millions of women don't have access to the full range of reproductive health care simply because of where they live.

But we can - and must - stand up to these attacks on our rights, and the rights of our neighbors across the country. The Center is leading the charge to call on Congress to stop the assault. Join us by signing the Bill of Reproductive Rights today.

Surabaya Zoo Animal Welfare Action - Cee4life

The severe case of the horrendous neglect of the Surabaya Zoo animals in Indonesia has been tediously going on for years.  It has come to the point now where all neglect, abuse and diseases causing multiple deaths is known world wide, yet still nothing of substance is being done to allow professional aid to these animals.

Additionally, the ongoing internal conflict of the zoo management along with the unprofessional management by political elements show that it is clear that the animals these people are deemed to care for and protect, are prioritised last.  The neglect and abuse goes on.

This petition address's 3 issues..

1. To implore and urge the President of Indonesia, the Minister of Forests Indonesia, the Health Minister of Indonesia and the Mayor of Surabaya Indonesia, to end the animals suffering by allowing the implementation of professional aid into Surabaya Zoo

2. For the President of Indonesia and the Minister of Forests to step in and end the internal conflict with management inside Surabaya Zoo, and end the political elements involved in Surabaya Zoo, which are the sole reason for the severe stagnation of all animal welfare and the continued and heightened neglect of the Surabaya Zoo Animals.

3. To implore the Minister of Health to address the disease aspect of Surabaya Zoo, due to the contagious-to-humans Tuberculosis and Hepatitis prevelant within the zoo, and as an Occupational Health and Safety threat to both humans and animals, which in worst case scenario could result in innocent tourists being contaminated, or an outbreak.

Google: I Expect Privacy - Stop Reading Personal Gmail to Sell Ads!

Google reads every word of every email you send to or from a Gmail account in order to target you with ads. They read about your personal relationships, health information, finances, and more. It's illegal for someone to open and read your paper mail without permission, but Google reads every word of every single email you send or receive every single day.

In response to a lawsuit against Google for snooping through personal Gmail, Google claims that users have "no legitimate expectation of privacy" when it comes to their email. But, common sense says that's ridiculous; clearly, when you send a personal email to a friend or colleague, either on paper or online, you expect that the message will not be read to target you with ads.

Tell Google that you do have an expectation of privacy and that you demand that they stop reading the contents of your private emails to sell you ads.

Tell the DEA to Respect State Drug Laws and Leave Legal Pot Growers Alone

Last year Colorado voted to legalize recreational marijuana, with retail sales set to begin on January 1. But the feds are going after businesses preparing for the new market.

Last week 10 locations were raided by agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency and Internal Revenue Service, and no one is sure why because no arrests were made and documents remain sealed.

Even though the new state law conflicts with federal law, the U.S. Department of Justice had said last August it would pretty much ignore states that allow recreational pot as long as it’s kept away from children, criminal cartels, other states and federal property.

Though there could have been cause for the Colorado raids, many question the military-style methods used by the agents - like breaking windows in the middle of the day. Whatever the cause, their message of intimidation is clear - selling pot in Colorado can be risky.

Tell the DEA to respect state drug laws and leave legal marijuana growers alone.

Tell Congress: ¡Basta! End Big Oil Handouts

Last year, the top five oil companiesâ??BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Shellâ??collectively made $118 billion in profits. But thatâ??s not all. Big Oil companies also received $4 billion in taxpayer-funded subsidies.

If you agree that American families should not be paying for their gas twiceâ??first at the pump, and then again on tax dayâ??sign our petition to tell Congress, â??No másâ? to Big Oil handouts.

Save the Great Whites of Western Australia

Western Australia doesn't want or need lethal shark control.

Sharks as apex predators perform a critical role in maintaining ocean health and are already being killed in their tens of millions.

Instead of killing we need  to educate ocean users on the low risk of shark bite so they can make informed choices and support our own scientists and innovators in their efforts to learn more to lower this already small risk.

We've enlisted some of Australia's and the worlds prominent underwater professionals to save WA's Great White Sharks and need your help too!

Please sign and share!!

Daily Voice : It's Time to Limit Carbon Pollution from Power Plants

It's Time to Limit Carbon Pollution from Power Plants

Global warming is one of the biggest threats facing humanity today. Life as we know it is jeopardized by our continued dependence on fossil fuels for energy. We have a moral responsibility to address this crisis.

Power plants are the biggest source of global warming pollution in the U.S., but there are currently no limits on the amount of carbon pollution power plants can spew into our air.

However, the EPA has proposed first-ever standards for carbon pollution from new power plants. With these safeguards, new plants would be at least 60% cleaner than today's average coal plant.

But to make it happen, we urgently need your help.

Right now, the EPA is accepting public comments on these standards. Members of the faith community bring an important moral voice to the issue. Opponents like Big Coal will keep trying to weaken or block this rule in Congress, but a strong showing of support from all of us will help protect it.

It's our moral responsibility to act as good stewards and preserve life for future generations. Please join Interfaith Power & Light in telling the EPA to move forward with the proposed safeguards for new power plants.

Congress: Don't Cut Social Security to Fix Your Own Budget Shortfalls!

For many older Americans, every dollar of their Social Security retirement benefits is absolutely critical. Forcing older Americans to shoulder cuts to Social Security would jeopardize their financial stability and health security.

Yet right now Congress is threatening to avoid sequester budget cuts by instead making harmful cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

That's not a real solution. It's not fair to the Americans who have paid into the system their entire lives, only to see their benefits cut to fix Congress's budget woes.

Resolving the financing challenges of Social Security and addressing the retirement crisis facing millions of Americans deserves a separate conversation. Social Security, which is off-budget, self-financed by payroll taxes and has run surpluses for most of the last 30 years, must be done separately and carefully, not for purposes of reducing the federal budget deficit or as a bargaining chip for other government spending.

Take action today: Let your Congressional representatives know they can't cut Social Security to makeup for their budget shortfalls.
