Daily Voice : Take the Cage-Free Pledge

Take the Cage-Free Pledge

Whenever we buy eggs — or any product made with eggs — we're making a choice about the kind of food we want to serve at our table, as well as the kind of world in which we want to live.

Today, over three hundred million hens are suffering, squeezed into cages so small they can't stretch their wings or even turn around. It doesn't have to be this way. As consumers, we have the power to say no to caged egg production.

Change is possible — it starts with a simple choice. Join WSPA in our fight to stop the cruel and inhumane treatment of egg-laying hens. As our numbers grow, more and more retailers, restaurants and institutions will take notice.

Pledge to help end this cycle of cruelty by:

-- Only buying eggs that are produced without the use of cages

-- Encouraging restaurants to use cage-free eggs and eating at restaurants that do

-- Talking to family and friends about the issue of caged egg production and spreading the word about how they can help.

Take the Cage-Free Pledge, and encourage your family and friends to do the same.

Support Urgently Needed Aid for Those Displaced By Typhoon Haiyan

Right now, the people of the Philippines are in urgent need of our help. On November 8, the Philippines was struck by Typhoon Haiyan, the world's strongest typhoon of the year and one of the most powerful recorded storms in history. Officials have reported that more than 10,000 may have been been killed. Thousands more are feared dead.

10 million Filipinos have been affected by the storm. More than half a million have been displaced from their homes. They are struggling to find their family members among the wreckage, and scrambling for basic needs like food and water. And of course, as in every disaster, children are the most vulnerable.

UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund has been on the ground in the Philippines since 1948. Right now, UNICEF experts are moving across the Philippines trying to get aid to the children and families who need it most. From its emergency warehouse in Copenhagen, UNICEF Supply Division is airlifting water purification tablets, medical kits, tarps, and nutrition supplements -- critical lifesaving goods to protect the health and safety of the 4 million children placed at risk by the storm.

In the face of disasters like this, it's vital that we work together to show our solidarity and get those affected the help they need. It's time to act quickly to ensure those affected by Typhoon Haiyan quickly receive essential medicine, nutrition and safe water.

Add your name today to pledge your support and to stand in solidarity with those whose lives have been devastated in the wake of this disaster.

Daily Voice : Say No to the Corporate Takeover of Our Schools

Say No to the Corporate Takeover of Our Schools

At the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) big corporations write and sponsor free-market policy bills alongside state legislators. These bills aren't looking out for the good of working American's, though. Corporations spend big money to push ALEC's priorities: Defund. Deregulate. Privatize. Profit.

When it comes to education, those policies place the interests of big business over the wellbeing of students across America. And that's not right.

The track records for ALEC's education policies are shameful. They are not research proven reforms and they have a real negative impact on students.

ALEC is looking to corporatize our schools, placing profits over the right of all students to access quality education.

Parents and communities get it. Real education reform policies have to address inequities and allow educators to be a voice for their students and the profession, not just dump taxpayer money into the coffers of private corporations.

Send a message to your Congressional representatives today: Stand up for students and against the corporate takeover of our schools!

Daily Voice : Support Clinical Trials to Help Conquer Cancer

Support Clinical Trials to Help Conquer Cancer

Clinical trials are research studies that provide the vital link between breakthroughs in the lab and new treatments that extend and improve the lives of patients with cancer â?? patients like Lori Cuffari, who was diagnosed with a thyroid cancer that was resistant to standard treatment.

Thanks to a clinical trial, today Lori is one of more than 13 million cancer survivors in the US.

Since 1984 the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Grants & Awards Program has supported more than a thousand cancer research projects. That support is helping to conquer cancer every day. In fact, Loriâ??s doctor, Marcia Brose, MD, PhD is a Conquer Cancer Foundation grant recipient.

Participation in clinical trials can both help improve survival rates for cancer patients. Without clinical trials, we wouldnâ??t have new cancer therapies.

Yet, despite the promise offered by clinical trials, less than 5% of adults with cancer enroll in them.

Add your name today to help spread the word about the lifesaving importance of clinical trials and to show your support for continued investment in cancer research.

Protect the Western Yellow-billed Cuckoo from Extinction

Yellow-billed Cuckoos can only be found in a fraction of their former range in the American West, a decline linked to the loss of over 90 percent of their breeding habitat—the cottonwood and willow forests that once lined the banks of western rivers.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has proposed protecting the western Yellow-billed Cuckoo under the Endangered Species Act, and is accepting public comments through December 2. Send your public comments in support of protecting these imperiled birds today.

Daily Voice : Take Melissa Bachman Off the Air!

Take Melissa Bachman Off the Air!

"Hardcore" hunter Melissa Bachman recently posted a photo to her social media profiles of herself in front of a mature lion that she shot in South Africa. This is just the most recent of her public photos of cruel and unnecessary trophy hunting of defenseless animals. It's repulsive and we must stop it!

Bachman is the host of a TV series called "Winchester Deadly Passion" on the Pursuit Channel. The website says, "Her hunts are heart pounding and adrenaline packed, plus she's taken some world-class animals along the way."

Trophy hunting is despicable and counters any efforts of conservation. These photos represent Bachman's complete disrespect for nature and we do NOT want her influencing our children and being promoted by TV networks.

Please sign this petition today demanding that The Pursuit Channel remove Melissa Bachman from the programming lineup. We will also be sending these letters to Dish Network and DirecTV, telling them that this programming has no place in their service.
