UK: Take Action on Sexual Exploitation of Minority Girls!

A new report from the Muslim Women's Network UK shows that Asian and Muslim girls have been targeted in sex crimes more than previously thought. Unfortunately, the UK Government has failed to adequately protect these groups.

The report recounts a long list of crimes perpetrated by pedophiles against girls an average of 13 to 14 years old. This counters the myth that these crimes are conducted mostly by Asian men against Caucasian women. The report indicates that Asian and other Muslim women may be more hesitant to report these crimes for cultural and social reasons.

All women deserve equal protection against sexual predators, regardless of race or religion. Please sign the petition to urge the UK Government to research sexual exploitation against minority females and take immediate and serious action to prevent these crimes.

Daily Voice : Tony Abbott, YOU should not be in charge of women's issues

Tony Abbott, YOU should not be in charge of women's issues

In the new Australian government, organized by Prime Minister Tony Abbott, women will have less of a voice than they do in the government of Afghanistan. Of Abbot's nineteen appointed cabinet ministers, only one is a woman.

But that hasn't stopped Abbot from putting himself in charge of women's issues in Australia. Abbot has assumed full responsibility for "women's policies and programmes," according to a recent article in the Independent.

Abbott's track record in defending women is less than dismal. He has publicly declared abortion "the easy way out" and opposed affirmative action for women. Meanwhile his frequent snarky and sexist comments betray his fundamental contempt for women. Abbot is on record saying women do all the ironing and recommending that a former prime minister "make an honest woman" of herself. Tell Tony Abbott he is the last person who should be in charge of women's issues.

I expect replies like this to have been made a hundred years ago.
Just because, in your eyes, no woman has made a good politician in the past, does not mean no woman ever can.
Get back behind your stoves women, the chains must have snapped.

API Blatantly Distorts Facts. Help Fight Back.

The American Petroleum Institute is at it again. Jack Gerard, API President and CEO, sent Capitol Hill staffers a fact-twisting email claiming that a recent EDF-coordinated University of Texas methane emissions study "proves" that "hydraulic fracturing is safe for the environment."

This is a lie and complete misuse of the facts. The study found several problems, ones that can spell big trouble for the climate if ignored. And the few improvements the study notes are a direct result of EPA regulations that API actively lobbied against!

Take Action: Don't let API get away with spreading malicious falsehoods.

Tell the Senate to End Tax Breaks for Oil, Gas, and Coal!

Millions of Americans struggle to make ends meet. But the worldâ??s richest and most powerful companies -- billion dollar corporate oil and gas giants -- are getting hundreds of millions of dollars, every year, from the U.S. government in the form of tax breaks.

Numerous studies find that eliminating subsidies for fossil fuel production would not have a significant impact on consumer gas prices. The Department of Treasury estimates less than a penny a gallon cost increase.

Tell the Senate that it's time to end these tax breaks for wealthy and powerful oil, gas and coal companies.

Congress: Don't Cut Funds for Alzheimer's Research

Anyone who has watched a friend or loved one struggle with Alzheimer's disease knows just how harsh a toll it takes on a person and the people around them. Too often it feels like the disease has stolen your loved one from you.

There is hope for new breakthroughs to treat and prevent Alzheimer's, as scientists work every day to discover new treatments and a cure for the disease.

But right now, funding for potentially groundbreaking research could be on the chopping block, as over the next few months Congress will be considering a new round of  devastating budget cuts.

The lack of dependable funding is threatening to create a deficit of highly skilled scientists at a time when the nation could soon face a health care crisis brought on by devastating disorders like Alzheimer's.

Scientists working to find treatments and cures for Alzheimer's disease shouldn't struggle to find funding - the health and happiness of our loved ones depends on it.

Send a message to Congress today: Don't let politics get in the way of medical research that fights Alzheimer's and saves lives!
