Tell Congress: We must protect our ERs and Trauma Centers

America's hospitals are woven into the very fabric of our communities. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, they care for us in our times of need.

Now, America's hospitals are headed for trouble. Deep, federal budget cuts have been proposed that could threaten hospitals' ability to meet the needs of their patients.

The number of ER visits has gone up 46.3% in the last 20 years, while the number of ERs has gone down 12.6%. With an aging population, and millions of Americans about to gain access to health insurance, that trend is unlikely to change.

Trauma centers also are absolutely vital, life-saving places of care. Care from a Level I trauma centers during moments of critical injury or illness can improve survival rates by 25%. So why do federal payments to hospitals remain on the chopping block?

Tell Congress to stop playing games with patient care. Protect America's emergency rooms and trauma centers.

Protect Our National Parks, Forests, and Monuments from Fracking

The natural gas industry has its eye on our national parks, forests and monuments. From Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota to George Washington National Forest in Virginia to Desolation Canyon in Utah, the fracking industry wants a free pass to drill as much as they want without taking responsibility for the consequences.

Fracking is dirty and dangerous, and the rules proposed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to regulate it are woefully inadequate. We cannot allow gas companies to continue expanding fracking operations on federal lands and put our wild places at risk.

Send a letter to the Department of Interior Secretary Jewell and President Obama today telling them we must protect public lands from fracking.

Tell the Senate: It's Time to End Employment Discrimination!

In 29 states there's no state law to protect lesbian, gay, and bisexual employees from being fired - and 33 states lack state laws protecting transgender people. That's right, 33 states.

This leaves thousands of hardworking Americans at risk, with no job security, susceptible to the whims of a discriminatory boss.

It's time for equality everywhere - and that includes the workplace. A key Senate committee just passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and now, the full Senate has a historic opportunity to tackle this issue once and for all - please send your message right now!

Stop Aerial Wolf Hunting In Alaska NOW!

You should sign this petition right this second because hundreds of wolves are being murdered. Each year, the state of Alaska permits private citizens to chase down and kill dozens of wolves using low-flying aircraft and high-powered rifles. Sarah Palin is paying people who kills wolves $200, this is disgraceful! She says they are trying to preserve caribou but then they go and shoot the caribou! Wolves numbers are declining fast, breeds have been wiped out! As far as I'm aware, the gray wolf is the only breed left. There are only 19 white wolves left, however, they are all related. This means they can't repopulate. They are pratically extinct. Watch these videos to see what happens:

Daily Voice : End Bear Bile Farming In China

End Bear Bile Farming In China

On January 9th, six lucky moon bears arrived at Animals Asia's Bear Rescue Centre in Chengdu -- the only sanctuary in China built to care for bears rescued from the barbaric practice of bile farming. Battered and broken from their time on an illegal bear farm, these bears are already starting to mend under the expert care of Animals Asia's dedicated vet team.

And while the nightmare is over for these six bears, across China more than 10,000 moon bears remain in tiny cages never feeling the sun on their backs or grass under their feet. They can be kept like this for up to 30 years. This cruel practice continues despite the availability of many effective and affordable alternatives.

Animals Asia applauds the Chinese Government for rescuing these six bears and closing the illegal farm, but the suffering of 10,000 must be made a priority and a firm date set when bear farming will end! Add your name to our petition today!

Pledge to Go Slow: Sign the Slow Food Manifesto

The future of food is the future of the planet.

A better, cleaner and fairer world begins with what we put on our plates -- and our daily choices determine the future of the environment, economy and society.

It's time we reconnected with our food, its origins, and its role in connecting and building our communities.

Our food should nourish a healthful lifestyle and be produced in ways that preserve biodiversity, sustain the environment and ensure animal welfare – without harming human health.

If you care about local farmers, ranchers, fishers; animal welfare; the joy of a shared meal; preserving food culture; protecting the environment or avoiding GMOs, we have a place for you at our table!

Join the movement today! Add your name to the Slow Food manifesto and help us work towards good, clean and fair food for everyone!

Daily Voice : Support Nursing Home Legislation

Support Nursing Home Legislation

Nursing homes throughout the U.S. are decaying. The states control nursing home budgets, and so far they have done nothing but freeze wages, cut facilities, and reduced patients' access to medicines.

Caregivers and trained nurses provide essential care for America's growing population of seniors. Budget cuts make the biggest difference in the quality of care for the country's aging population.

The states' poor handling of nursing homes has led to insufficient staffing because caregivers no longer feel valued for the hard work they do, or are no longer able to work because of the instability of wages and benefits.

More patients are being admitted into nursing homes, but as a result of budget cuts, they may find that there's no one to take care of them. The shortfall of staff and increasing cost per patient will mean that the needs of seniors are being neglected by homes that are strapped for resources.

We can't keep allowing cuts to nursing homes. Let Congress know that our seniors deserve better than this.

Daily Voice : Investigate Dog Abuse at the University of Oklahoma Laboratory!

Investigate Dog Abuse at the University of Oklahoma Laboratory!

USDA documents show that the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center used improper euthanasia methods for dogs in their studies. According to Michael Budkie, executive director of Ohio animal rights group Stop Animal Exploitation Now!, the lab electrocuted dogs with a 9-volt battery applied to the heart, but failed to use anesthesia. This means that the dogs suffered pain as they were killed.

The use of dogs in research is troubling enough given their loving and loyal nature and history of working with people. The possibility that these beautiful and intelligent creatures suffered pain for research is particularly disheartening. Please sign the petition to urge the USDA to investigate the institution and fine them for any breaches of reserach procedure.
