So I suppose the defining verse is Matthew 24:36-44

In in Matthew 24 and Luke 17, it can be read that " the ones who were taken are the wicked" or the ones who were taken were the righteous

Taken as in "the flood or in the Ark"

"Righteous as in "left on the earth or taken in the Ark"

I do not like the fact thats Its all based on one scripture which is 1 Thessalonians 4:17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

Rapture in fact is a synonym of the  [second coming] final resurrection

pre-tribulation is the main one people associate with the rapture where people will be left behind and other will be taken

then there are the mid or post tribulation

For what it is worth, here are my views on the Rapture.

Why I believe in the "Pre-Tribulation", Rapture.

Eccl 1:9 That which has been is that which will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.

In other words, the Lord's Judgments in the past are indicative of His future judgment.. For example the, "Great Tribulation". will be preceded by the, "Rapture", as that which is symbolic of the rapture always precedes judgment. See the examples given bellow.

The Flood.

Gen 5:23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years.
Gen 5:24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

Enoch was taken to heaven before the flood.

The destruction of Sodom.

Gen 19:22 "Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

Joseph is a wonderful type of our lord Jesus, in Gen 45, we have an account of the second visit to Joseph by his brothers. When they came the first time, they did not recognize him, when they came the second time, they did recognize him, but only after he had revealed himself to them, however, he did not do this until after he had first sent his household servants away. When Jesus came the first time, His brothers, (the Jews) did not recognize Him, when He comes the second time, they will, but not until after He sends away His servants, raptures His bride,

Gen 45:1 THEN Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, "Make everyone go out from me!" So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers.

Rahab, and all her family were saved, when Jericho was destroyed.

Jos 6:17 Now the city shall be doomed by the LORD to destruction, it and all who [are] in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who [are] with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
Jos 6:23 And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel.
Jos 6:25 And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father's household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

The Kenites departed (a type of the rapture) before the destruction of the Amalekites

1Sa 15:6 Then Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

2Ki 2:11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

So he escaped the wrath of Jezebel.

1Ki 19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time."

Two Events?

If there is only one event, please tell me how it is it possible for every eye to see the thief in the night?.

The wrath of God.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

1Th 5:9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

If as some maintain, Christians are not "Raptured", before the Great Tribulation, and the Great Tribulation is the wrath of God, then why are Christians suffering the wrath of God, when the Scripture verses above, says they will not?

144,000 Jewish evangelists.

Population: 6,525,170,264 (July 2006 est.) If the number of genuine article real born again Christians is a mere 1%, of the total population, then there will be at least 65,000000, of them, which is a great many more than 144,000.

Now if as some maintain, Christians are not "Raptured", before the Tribulation, then please tell me why God raises up the "144,000 Jewish evangelists", when there are so many more Christians around to do the same job?

1 Thessalonians 5:2  for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

The resurrection of the dead, and the day of judgment, the rapture and second coming

2 Peter 3:10  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

Like a thief , referring to the suddenness of His coming and surprise of His appearance

It is true to say lot was taken away [raptured] before the destruction of the city

Deuteronomy 29:23 The whole land will be a burning waste of salt and sulfur--nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, which the LORD overthrew in fierce anger.

But that there was not one good person in the City to be taken at that time and this cannot beseen as a type of "rapture"

Yet those who looked back were not taken

You might see Pauls rapture to the third heaven as a "type" of rapture, see : 2 Corinthians 12:2 nonetheless he returned as a different person

Matthew 24:36-44 Refers to this event in which will be the Second coming of the Son of man

This is what Jesus spoke of and many parables foretold

For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and  then he will reward each person according to what he has done.

The clouds here in Matthew 16:27 being the angelic hosts [Angels] of heaven also see : Matthew 24:27  this being the  second coming [not the third] when the return and rapture [resurrection] being taken up

And so in the second coming See : Matthew 24:36-44 and more preferably verse 40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left

Now you can align this next with the end plague of Egypt where the blood is smeared over the lintels

And here we have the end or last trumpet  or "the day of trumpets"

At the last trump call "the dead shall be raised" [taken up]

The seventh trumpet 1Corinthians 15:52

This is the rapture or second coming on the last call , which precedes the bowls of wrath
