The Preface to Healing By Redemption by David Treharne (An uncopyrighted book)

I trust the Christian reader will prayerfully seek to test the contents of this volume by the Word of God.

"To the law and to the testimony: if they do not speak according to this word there is no light in them. (Isa. viii. 20)

"I have been practising medicine and surgery for nearly 30 years, and have been a believer for about 24 years.

Because of the conviction that the occupation of medical practitioner was an unscriptural one I gave it up, though it was the only means of livelihood familiar to me.

That step was a climax of years of considerable uneasiness of conscience.

As I am, God willing, about to publish a concise account of the development of my conviction, I will say no more on that subject here.

Commending the volume to the blessing of God, and to the unbiased judgement of the reader,
I remain,
Yours in the Lord's service,
DAVID TREHARNE."
Hawkhurst, Kent.

I was drawn to this threads title, so will post re the title as I have no idea who this person is being quoted above, if that's okay :)

A mind renewed by the Word~what is that?

You shall be restored by the renewal of your mind~paraphrased from scripture.  Restored to what? to the state that Adam and Eve were? the returning to innocence?

When I generally look at the Bible beginning to end, it tells of the story of God in man's life and the earth's from the beginning of time (Genesis) to the end of time (Revelation)...is the being restored, renewed, returning to innocence a working from the back to front?  Working from Revelation to Genesis, maybe if look at it that way round, the commandments wouldnt seem so daunting a thing when realising its something for further along in your journey to be concerned about?

I say this because I feel people, especially new christian's get bogged down in guilt about sin etc, things not done right in life, wrong decisions, we have all done them, but we all dont live in a constant state of regret and guilt about them!

People have been trained and conditioned to look at life on the basis of the thought patterns of good and evil which was a result of the knowledge of good and evil Adam and Eve obtained for eating of that forbidden tree in the garden. Our minds have to be renewed by reading God's word to understand how God sees things. For example if an institution, group of people do more good than harm it is automatically assumed that that institution is approved by or is of God. NOTHING could be further from what the Bible teaches.
 Luke 16:15
New King James Version (NKJV)
15 And He said to them, ?You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God
An example of this would be denominations which the Bible calls carnal Christianity and men esteem highly. See 1 Corinthians 1:10 and 1 Corinthians 3:1-4.
Here is another institution that is highly esteemed by men but clearly not under the direction of God although Satan can do nothing without God allowing it.
    Luke 4:5-6
New King James Version (NKJV)
5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him[a] all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said to Him, ?All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

Christians are to live the principles of Matthew 5, 6, and 7 which are the heart of Christian behavior with all people and the core of their relationship with God.  These principles are opposed to how most live their lives in a cultural mindset of relative morality and ethics. The mind of the Christian has to be renewed by the Word as applied by the Holy Spirit to live these principles.
As we read and study the word our thought patterns are renewed to see things by the Holy Spirit of Life's point of view not  the unregenerate world who lives in Satan's kingdom.
Further religion has taught many sincere believers doctrines that are just not true on God's will to heal everyone who comes to Him with no exceptions only easily met conditions by grace through faith. They teach the command of Jesus to all disciples in Acts 2:4 is not for today and has passed away as well as all the gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12. Here is the issue as stated by Jesus:

Matthew 15:8-9
New King James Version (NKJV)
8 ?These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And[a] honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.? ?

Only an honest study of God's word with the illumination of the Holy Spirit can renew the mind from these false doctrines.
The man that wrote the intro to his book in the OP did just that and was set free and renewed from all the issues I mentioned above.

Thank you for replying and not minding me just posting on the topic title.

I don't believe that salvation is denomination led, it is heart led.  To be renewed from the inside out.  There does come a time when you need to move from the head to the heart though, do you not think?  Where the need or thirst for head to be sorted and the learning of scripture to then lead on to the 'walk' or 'relationship'.   Walk by faith, it is something though from the head to the heart which I believe is Holy Spirit driven and 'burned' onto the heart, like the 10 commandments were burnt onto stone.

Yes, Christianity is a faith relationship with the living God and is the ONLY way a person can be changed from the inside out. All religion does is establish rules to try and change/control behavior by do's and don't's. It never works which is one reason why even one large Christian denomination believes Christians have two natures, one sinful and the other "saved".

I like this quote by Aristotle

"Educating the mind, without educating the heart is no education at all"

I am suspisious about this book, he says there is no scriptual warrent for the role of 'medical practitioner' which even a basic knowledge shows that there are no condemnations of doctors, that Lke is known as a doctor and even Paul dabbles in medical advice.  That being so anything he has to say is likly to be equaly        inaccurate.

Lesjude the writer of the OP was strongly against the medical profession. Unfortunately he is no longer here to present his point of view. He passed away in about May of this year.
