We know that the devil is a liar!
He wants to distract us from the presence of God and he?s willing to do any and everything to do that.
He wants to get us to a point where we throw in the towel and step back from the Lord.
But there is word of encouragement?we can stand strong.
We can stand strong in the Lord and know that God will give us strength to endure any and every situation.
The Lord tells us that He won?t put more on us than we can bare and the enemy knows this.  Because the enemy knows God?s 'burdens are light', the enemy will take the littlest things and place it under a microscope to make our circumstances and burdens appear to be bigger and heavier than what it actually is!!

Many times, the enemy will send a spirit of doubt, sickness, intimidation, fear and etc to us with the purpose of tormenting and discouraging us.  The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7  that,
?God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.?  This scripture lets us know that God is not the author of fear nor has He given us the spirit of fear (which often times is entered by doubt and intimidation) instead what He has given to us is power and love.
God tells us in Luke 10:19, ?Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.?

Proverbs 18:21 tells us, ?Death and life are in the power of the tongue.
Jesus has placed power in our mouth and this is why we must always watch what we say.
We create our own spiritual atmosphere but our words, either positive or negative..
That is why Praise is so vital to us!!  :)

Fear and doubt are closely connected and can lead to unbelief and lack of faith. Matthew 8:26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.Matthew 14:31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?

As you said, God didn't give us a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. Love helps us to endure all things and will relieve the mind of fear and doubt even of what is to come. And love, not fear, is the motivation and incentive of obedience. 1John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has to do with punishment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.
A sound mind is well balanced, and under right influences; in which it sees things in their just proportions and relations; in which it is not feverish and excited, but when everything is in its proper place.
It is the nature of the gospel to inspire the mind with holy courage and with power. And with the Holy Spirit which gives power. Luke 24:49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. The Spirit of God is a spirit of might, and of power, as well as of knowledge, of understanding, of counsel, of love, and of a sound mind.

Yes Helen, praise is vital to us and for mutual encouragement. Phil. 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
