@davetaff what does that mean when Jesus preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed at the time of Noah.1Peter3v19
Please remember says spirits and not angels. Are they angels?

18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

 19  By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Hi Fizz
Interesting question we know that the angels who corrupted the first creation were locked away.
So are the spirits that Christ went back to preach to were all those who died in the flood that they would hear the gospel and have the opportunity to be saved.
Maybe he preached to both angels and those who died in the flood I like that it gives us a good hope for the future that everyone will have the opportunity to repent and be saved.

Love and Peace

Are not people who have died spirits? As we are while alive body, soul and spirit.

Thanks
The bible may say it is appointed for men to die and then the judgement but all will be judged, saved and unsaved. So then all possibility that mankind is given  opportunities after the grave.

Strange that these passages seem to show the spirit after death and others are about sleeping.

Hi Fizz
Thank you for your reply I think the above passages are about all those up to the time of the flood.
All those who have died from the flood to the present time are sleeping awaiting the resurrection our aim is to be part of the first resurrection

Love and Peace

Hi Davetaff,
Thanks for your reply.
Can the spirit of a person wake up without the body, or does the spirit of a person need the body to wake up .
How did Jesus preach to the spirits if they can't wake up without the body?

Hi Fizz
I think we can let St Paul answer this one

49  And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50  Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51  Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed

I take this to mean we shall be changed into spiritual beings

Love and Peace
Dave

Sorry but don't know how to answer. That's why.
For just Jesus this was other.

Which is who this topic is about - the Messiah saying in Matthew 12:40 that He would be spending 3 days and 3 nights in the "heart of the earth".

So why did you say you don't know how to answer when you said that it meant something other than the tomb?

It took me a while to work out the question and I was seeing all possibilities and it just opened up when you and others posted.
Just be pleased you got some answers eventually. Better late than never. :D
