Alcohol won't kill if used in moderation. The Bible teaches moderation in use not abstinence. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding. Jesus drank wine. The Bible forbids drunkeness. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. People need Christ so they can exercise self-control not government control against abusing alcohol.

Hi Berean
Thank you for your reply you may be right moderation may be OK but moderation can easily turn to alcoholism even to the nicest people turning them into monsters abusing their partners and children causing untold misery so its not a question of self control alcohol is an addictive substance which can lead to ill health and death and at least have a warning on the bottle or can to that effect.
As for strong drink the bible has a few things to say about it none of it good and should be avoided.

Love and Peace
Dave

Many people do not have a christian view of life.
For them eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die, is how they view life.

Hi
The law says

8  And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying,

9  Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations

For us who believe can mean When we enter the body of Christ we cease with alcohol.

Love and Peace

Very true but when Jesus came into the world he came as the suffering servant when he comes again he will be our high priest and the law applies to the high priest and his sons and going into the heavenly tabernacle do we enter the tabernacle when we enter the body of Christ if so should we abstain from alcohol.?
Will we need alcohol in paradise

Love and Peace

Religious nonsense Dave.

There are plenty of examples in Scripture of it being used, endorsed and even encouraged to drink.

Thought you do not add to the word of God as you often put it?

Drunkenness and use of alcohol are not necessarily synonymous with the other.

Religious nonsense Dave.

is it really can you prove that with scripture

There are plenty of examples in Scripture of it being used, endorsed and even encouraged to drink.

is that so I jest did a search in my bible for strong drink and got 20 hits all negative
I then did a search for wine and got 35 hits all negative except maybe one when Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach but that was using it as a medicine

Thought you do not add to the word of God as you often put it?
I try not to

Drunkenness and use of alcohol are not necessarily synonymous with the other.

may be not but one can easily lead to the other but alcohol is very addictive if it was invented to day it would be banned with all other drugs
I spent 6 years in the army so have been to the edge of the world and looked there is somethingwrong when you spend the day worrying if you had enough money to go to the mess and get a few beers

Jesus is your Tabernacle dave.  The Nazarites, who took extra vow to not drink, cut their hair or go near the dead are really those forbidden.  Jesus was not a nazarite and alluded to this really when scripture speaks of John the Baptist not eating or drinking, but Jesus did.

Luke 7:33?44, Jesus said, ?For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ?He has a demon.? The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ?Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!?? (emphasis added).

Jesus was sinless dave...and yet drank.

Passover people would drink, many Jewish customs including wedding feasts people would drink.

Drinking alcohol is not a sin.  Drunkenness is.
Eating food is not a sin.  Gluttony is.
Many things are not sin, it only becomes sinful once it becomes  abused.

Thus there is no requirement to abstain from alcohol dave.

If anything, what needs addressing are the root causes of Drunkenness, addictive behaviours and pray and deal with that.

Because you have witnessed the abuse of something dave, does not make that something sinful.

Quote
Colossians 2

Alive with Christ
(Ephesians 2:1?10)

6Therefore, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, 7rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

8See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. 9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity dwells in bodily form. 10And you have been made complete in Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

11In Him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of your sinful nature, with the circumcision performed by Christb and not by human hands. 12And having been buried with Him in baptism, you were raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.

13When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses, 14having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross! 15And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

16Therefore let no one judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a feast, a New Moon, or a Sabbath. 17These are a shadow of the things to come, but the body that casts it belongs to Christ.c 18Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you with speculation about what he has seen. Such a person is puffed up without basis by his unspiritual mind. 19He has lost connection to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and knit together by its joints and ligaments, grows as God causes it to grow
