Hi
Just thought I'd broach this topic how should we as Christians use alcohol I have been free from it for a number of years now but used to drink before used to brew my own beer and wine it tasted awful but I drank it because it had alcohol in it.
I have seen the affects of alcohol at close range one member of my family died in bed cluching a bottle of whisky had not reach 50.
Another committed suicide by jumping in a river not very old and I have a son who has been struggling with drug and alcohol abuse from his early teens.
So my question now is should alcohol be advertised like it is on TV giving the impression its the nectar of the Gods a wonderful liquid that will solve all our problem we see it all the time in programs if they have a problem the first thing they do is reach for a bottle.
When we go to the shops or supermarket we se it stacked from floor to ceiling in the best location.
Would we be better of going back to the old off-licence system.
So should all advertising of alcohol be banned its the worst poisen man has ever invented and is ruining thousands of lives and families if it was invented today it would be banned with all the other drugs.

Love and Peace
Dave

In my opinion Christians are allowed alchol, but they are to use it in moderation, not getting drunk etc.
But alchol is not the only problem, the use of canabus is rive in towns and its affects are not recognised by most users.

What is really needed is for the government to stop the availbilit of cheap booze in supermarkets by taxing it.

Hi John
Thank you for your reply alcohol in moderation may be OK but the problem is not everyone uses it in moderation which can lead to all sorts of sinful behaviour.
What I am saying should it be advertised and promoted the way it is and what impression it has on youngsters I think it would be better if it was only sold in pubs or in off licenses and no advertising I also think that other recreational drugs could be sold here and all profits and taxes should be used for the rehabilitation of addicts why give all this money to criminal gangs.

Government regulation of alcohol doesn't work. We had that here in the USA called 'Prohibition". The answer to an alcohol drinking problem is for an individual to continually being filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:18).

Hi Berean
Thank you for your reply I'm not trying to bring in prohibition what I'm trying to get at is the way alcohol is advertised it should be banned if it is advertised it should be advertised for what it is a poison that can ruin your life
My concern is all this advertising has on our youngsters its put forward as something fantastic which is the exact opposite to what it is it's a drug like any other drug and should be treated the same alcohol  should be treated the same as any other drug let us see negative advertising from the governments signs over supermarket shelves saying ( this product can kill you )

Alcohol abuse is only one problem and one that the government can do something about by taxing it, it is not going to limit adverts simple because there is revenue being made for the government.

Are you aware of just how common the use of cannabis is?

Hi John
For me there is no difference between alcohol and other drugs jest as well make all drugs legal and tax them and take this income from the underworld.
The next question is why do so many people turn to alcohol and drugs is life so bad that they need to escape in drugs would it not be detter to change the world.

Alcohol won't kill if used in moderation. The Bible teaches moderation in use not abstinence. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding. Jesus drank wine. The Bible forbids drunkeness. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. People need Christ so they can exercise self-control not government control against abusing alcohol.
