francis drake,
re:  "But none of those verses give a date do they? None of them contradict your Leviticus verse do they?"

Sorry, I should have added in Reply #5 that it was based on the usual assumption that the day of preparation of the Passover and the killing of the animal took place on the 14th.

But as you say, that's just an assumption.
Where does it show in the NT that Matthew's "first day of the feast" was not the same day as Leviticus's : 'fifteenth day of the same month'

I trust you also understand that the Jewish day starts at sundown. ie. although most people understand that the Jewish sabbath equates to Saturday, few realise that the Shabbat meal starts on Friday evening.

And also, there were two Sabbaths during crucifixion week, an annual Sabbath and the weekly Sabbath giving two holy days. The Christian church invariably misses this, which is why they preach the falsehood of Jesus dying on Friday and rising on Sunday, which by no stretch of the imagination can be the 3 days and 3 nights that Jesus stated.
If an annual Sabbath occurs on the Thursday, the day of preparation will have to be one day earlier.

Better people that me have written about the 2 Sabbaths, go check online.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

francis drake,
re:  "But as you say, that's just an assumption."

Are you suggesting that it could have been on the 15th when the disciples asked the Messiah where He wanted them to prepare the Passover meal?    That the Messiah didn't die until the afternoon of the 15th?
