Johns Gospel
« on: December 14, 2020, 03:49:58 PM »
Hi
Just thought Johns Gospel is a little different from the other Gospels and would be an interesting subject for discussion and I hope as many as possible will join in and give their opinions thank you.

So lets begin.

Joh 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2  He was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3  All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

This is a wonderful explanation of our Lord Jesus Christ he is the word of God every word God has given him he has given to us in the scriptures.
Jesus was with God from the very beginning and through him everything was created and is being created and we who believe are being created in him Or as St Paul puts it.

2Co_5:17  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Gal_6:15  For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.

I will leave it there for now look forward to your replies.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
Moving on

4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not

Our Lord is the light of the world he shines in a dark and evil world he is life and that is eternal life and let his light shine in us who believe so that we show his wonderful light to the world.

This also reminds of these words from Genesis

3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4  And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness

So the world has always been a dark place but Christ has always been there shining in that dark world from the very beginning he has been working his glorious creation getting brighter and brighter all the time until the day dawns and he returns in all his glory to light the whole world with his glorious splendor.

Love and Peace
Dave

Yeah - I love the difference between the two lights - one being created "at the beginning" being the sun..by "The Son"

The other being "The Son" who was never created - but at the beginning bringing all things into being..

That's the old argument of light and Light - as God Created the Sun to light the earth on the fourth day and then you go onto "were they actually days" bla bla bla

Hi TJ
Thank you for your reply and point of view.

Moving on.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.
John 1:6-‬8 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.1.6-8.ESV

Here John is speaking of John the Baptist hwho came to bear witness to the light that was coming into the world which was Christ Jesus.
Christ also bears witness about John being the Elijah that was to come before him.

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John,  and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come.
Matthew 11:13-‬14 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.11.13-14.ESV

This was to fulfil this prophecy

?Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.
Malachi 4:5 ESV

Hi
Next section

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people  did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:9-‬13 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.1.9-13.ESV

Here we have the light of the world Jesus Christ coming into the world  he came first to his own people Israel but the higher  classes and priesthood refused to accept although he was the one who had created the world and Israel but they refused to see the light.
But there was some who accepted him and loved him and followed him and these became the children of God not born of the will of man but of the will of God so all those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ will become the children of God how wonderful is that.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
Moving on

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.1.14.ESV

The word here is the word of God who is Christ Jesus  our Lord he left his spiritual world to enter the world as a man of flesh and blood.
And here St John testifies that he has seen him and his glory which he saw on the mount of transfiguration so we can be absolutely sure that Jesus of Nazareth is the son of God.

Hi
Moving on

15(John bore witness about him, and cried out, ?This was he of whom I said, ?He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.??)

Here we are told that John the Baptist tells about Jesus Christ here he tells us Christ was before him he is from everlasting from the beginning of creation and he also comes after John Christ has been creating from the very beginning and continues to do so and will continue to do so till all things are finished according to the will of our heavenly Father.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
Moving on

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.  For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father?s side,  he has made him known.
John 1:16-‬18 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.1.16-18.ESV

(in Christian belief) the free and unmerited favour of God, as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings

The meaning of grace a free gift from God blessings and salvation showing his great love for his  creation all we have to do is accept it through Jesus Christ our Lord.
No one has seen God but Jesus Christ has made him known

Love and Peace
