Sons of God
« on: November 09, 2020, 10:05:12 PM »
And it came to pass,
when men began to multiply on the face of the earth,
and daughters were born unto them,
That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair;
and they took them wives of all which they chose.
And the LORD said,
My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh:
yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
There were giants in the earth in those days;
and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men,
and they bare children to them,
the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.'

(Genesis 6:1-6)

Hi There,

The 'sons of God' spoken of in Genesis 6:1-5 (above) were angels; referred to as, 'sons of God' for they were created by God. I believe God also spoke of Israel as 'my Son' (Exodus 4:22)on the same basis; for Isaac who was born miraculously when Abraham and Sarah, his parents, were way past child bearing age, was the one through whom Abraham's seed (Israel) was to be called (Genesis 21:12), and through whom the Seed of the woman (Christ) of Genesis 3:15 should eventually be born. Adam is also called the 'son of God' in the genealogy of Christ in Luke 3:38, for the same reason, I believe; for he was 'created' and not begotten, and all mankind are spoken of as His 'offspring' in Acts 17:27-29.  However, the Lord Jesus Christ is God's only 'Begotten' Son (John 1:14).

* The sons of God (ie., angels) referred to in the verses above, are spoken of again in 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 1:6. They were also those whom the risen Lord visited in prison, there called 'spirits', in 1 Peter 3:19.  Job 1:6, Job 2:1 and Job 38:7 also refer to angels as 'sons of God.'

* Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are also spoken of as 'sons of God', being born of God in Christ Jesus their Lord, but this is a glorious study in it's own right (John 1:12).

* This is only a rough sketch, by no means an in-depth study, but I thought I would share it.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
