My comment was in response to davetaffs response to your comment, using that particular Scripture as his example of Biblical colloquial/figure of speech.
Topics tend to have fluidity rather than an extreme stringent request of response, that even when someone posts something the author disagrees with about their topic, it is dismissed.  No one really is an expert on any topic to be able to do this.

Relevance of time being measured differently in Biblical times to how it is now, should reflect in how you use Scripture that depicts time in a figure of speech kind of way, the user needs to have an understanding of this prior to attaching current understanding of time to it.
It changes the meaning and outcome of using such in a figure of speech way.

Hi
Jest like to make my case Peter says

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2 Peter 3:8 ESV

He says overlook this one fact

How on earth can anyone say its a figure of speach as Peter says its a fact

And is this 'fact' a 'literal' day and a thousand years, as you understand a day and a thousand years is to you now?

Ie 24 hrs and 365 days or 366 in a leap year?

Hi Serenity
Thank you for your post if its only a figure of speech why on earth dose God want us to know it as a fact what dose it mean.
The only time that a day has any significance is in the creation account but I won't go there.

Dave

@davetaff
Have you not just contradicted yourself in respect of your #41 reply?

And yes do go there.  In the creation account, is that day 24 hours as you understand a day is now?
Because the point is that how days were measured biblically are different to how measured now.

Hi Serenity
Thank you for your post I have been down this road a few times but will try again.
There was a Creation before the flood how long it took I don't know and this creation was condemned by God because of the angels that came down cohabited with human women and produced a cross bread which was not part of Gods plan so he destroyed that creation in the flood.
He then he began a new creation with Noah and everything on the ark this creation would take 6 days and the only thing to be created was man in the image of God and the only one who fits the bill is Jesus Christ at his second coming
God uses the creation account in Genesis as a plan for example on day 4 he created the sun the moon and stars the sun the light of the world is Christ the moon the church the reflected light of the sun the stars the children created by Christ and his church
Pretty simple really don't need an academic to work it out.
Gods plan was to create man in his image and the only man who is said to be it the image of the Father is Jesus

Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high

So Christ is the end of creation at his second comming so this creation that began with Noah is still ongoing so we are somewhere towards the end of the 6th day and the 7th day will begin soon which is Christs millennial reign and the Fathers sabbath rest.

Love and Peace
Dave

And again, that "someone new" needs to be someone who believes the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with a 1st day of the week resurrection, and who thinks that the "heart of the earth" is referring exclusively to the tomb, and who tries to explain the lack of a 3rd night by saying that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language of the period.
