Quote "a good man going to sinners to change them isn't that what Christ did." post 294.

No Jesus did not go to people to change them.
He taught them and us about how to live for God, our need of God and he actted to save those who were lost.

It is not Jesus's example that saves but the power of his resurrection in some ones life.

  Hi John
Thank you for your post but aren't we changed through baptism we die to our old self and are reborn into the body of Christ sounds like a big change to me.

Hi
Next

Then the men said to Lot, ?Have you anyone else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or anyone you have in the city, bring them out of the place. For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.? So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, ?Up! Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city.? But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting.
Genesis 19:12-‬14 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.19.12-14.ESV

Here we see Lot is given the opportunity to save his household but his sons inlaw thought he was only joking and would pay the price.
Reminds of the present time people turning their backs on the Gospel message and treating it as a joke but we who believe know better as we enter the Door which leads to eternal life and let us do our best to take others with us.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
Thought I should make it clear why I keep comparing what happend thousands of years ago with today its because of something St Paul said.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
1 Corinthians 13:12 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/1co.13.12.ESV

The mirror is the past history we have in scripture everything that happened in the past is repeated on a larger scale creation is an ongoing expanding work

He put another parable before them, saying, ?The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.?
Matthew 13:31-‬32 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.13.31-32.ESV

And again we have

He told them another parable. ?The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.?
Matthew 13:33 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.13.33.ESV

As we can see from these verses the kingdom of heaven starts of small and grow and expands.
The three measures of flour are the three stages of creation from the beginning to the flood from the flood to the coming of our Lord and from then to the present day and beyond.

Hi
Moving on

As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, ?Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.? But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. And as they brought them out, one said, ?Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away.?
Genesis 19:15-‬17 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.19.15-17.ESV

It's strange that Lot is reluctant to leave Sodom and follow the instruction of the two angels so the angels took hold of Lot and his wife andtwo daughters and took them out side the city and told them to run for safety to the hills.
Its interesting to note that although Lot is said to be righteous it says nothing about his daughters and wife the words of St Paul come to mind.

1Co 7:16 For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife

So it seams a righteous person may be able to save his loved one's so Lot and his wife and daughters were saved.

Love and peace

Hi
Next

And Lot said to them, ?Oh, no, my Lords. Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there?is it not a little one??and my life will be saved!? He said to him, ?Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.? Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Genesis 19:18-‬22 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.19.18-22.ESV

Here we see that God always listens to the requests of the righteousness and grants Lot his request.
Was it because Lot was one of the elect and Got had further use for him begs the question dose all these stories in the OT have a greater meaning.

Love and Peace

Hi
Next

The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But Lot?s wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.
Genesis 19:23-‬26 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.19.23-26.ESV

Lot Arrived in Zoar early in the morning and the Lord proceeds to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah and everything around them I always have problems when I read passages like this all this from the God of Love what is God destroying the evil that existed there and what would be his weapon of choice

Rev 2:16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth

We know that this sword is the word of God and with it he will smite the nations and we know the holy spirit is depicted as fire.

3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance

Just some random thoughts that come to mind when I read some of those horrific passages and ask my self would the God of Love do such things.

Love and Peace

"Quote "a good man going to sinners to change them isn't that what Christ did." post 294."

Your words David, and again we see in scripture that Jesus going to people did not change them.

What we see is the effect of his teaching together with what they know of him changing some people.

Your use of language is sloopy.

Does baptism change us. well it might make us cleaner, but that is all it does. People are baptised on their profession of faith.
That is they are already christian.

What does change us is becoming a Christian, the acknowledgement that we are sinners, the acceptance of Jesus as Saviour and Lord and our desire to be like him.
