Then the Lord said, ?Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.?
Genesis 18:20-‬21 ESV

The question here is from where did the out cry come from was it from Lot as far as we know he was the only righteous one living in that part of the world.
Just goes to show what one righteous person can achieve through prayer he brought our Lord down to deal with the situation.
This of course mirrors what will happen in the end times when our Lord will return and put an end to all the evil that is going on in the world let us earnestly pray like Lot that it will happen soon.

So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. Then Abraham drew near and said, ?Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?? And the Lord said, ?If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.? Abraham answered and said, ?Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?? And he said, ?I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.? Again he spoke to him and said, ?Suppose forty are found there.? He answered, ?For the sake of forty I will not do it.? Then he said, ?Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.? He answered, ?I will not do it, if I find thirty there.? He said, ?Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.? He answered, ?For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.? Then he said, ?Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.? He answered, ?For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.? And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
Genesis 18:22-‬33 ESV

I think the bottom line here is that God will not destroy the righteous with the wicked interesting the Abraham went down to only 10 righteous persons.
We know that Lot was told to leave Sodom he was the only righteous one and was saved.
I think this can mirror the end times when Christ shall remove all believers both dead and alive and take them to himself and they will ever be with the Lord.

The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth and said, ?My Lords, please turn aside to your servant?s house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way.? They said, ?No; we will spend the night in the town square.? But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
Genesis 19:1-‬3 ESV

Here we see Lot recognising the two angels from God for who they were angels are messengers from God and these two angels remind us of the two messengers we have received Israel and our Lord Jesus Christ they have given us Gods word from the very beginning and we should take greater notice to what they say.

Hi

But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot, ?Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.? Lot went out to the men at the entrance, shut the door after him, and said, ?I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly.
Genesis 19:4-‬7 ESV

Here we get some idea of the extent of the evil in Sodom it seams pretty obvious  that the were no restrictions in the city it was a case of anything goes bit like the world of to day were things are becoming more permissible day by day how long will God allow this to go on.

Behold, I have two daughters who have not known any man. Let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you please. Only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the shelter of my roof.? But they said, ?Stand back!? And they said, ?This fellow came to sojourn, and he has become the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them.? Then they pressed hard against the man Lot, and drew near to break the door down.
Genesis 19:8-‬9 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.19.8-9.ESV

Here we see Lot offering his two daughters to the mob outside sowing his love and respect for the two angels of the Lord but the mob would not accept his offer and advanced threatening to do worse to him.
It seems true even today for for believers in many parts of the world being persecuted let us prey for them.
The world today is becoming more like Sodom with each passing day.

We know that Lot was a rightous man, but we also know he was a foolish man.
He thought to influence the people of sodom, yet they had only contempt for him.
We also see the influence they had on him and his family.

Being willing to sacrifice his own daughters to gang rape, his wife being so attached to the city that she did not want to leave and his daughters being willing to get their father drunk so they could have sex with him.

It is a sad tale of a man living apart from the people of God in the belief that he is doing good there.

Challenge for us.

How attached to this world are we that we sacrifice our time with Gods people under some silly excuse.

Hi John
Thank you for your thoughts some good points raised just a thought a good man going to sinners to change them isn't that what Christ did.
I have often thought why has God given us all these stories do they have hidden meaning should we look on them as parables.
How should we interpret scripture I always think of what St Paul says

For it is written in the Law of Moses, ?You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain.? Is it for oxen that God is concerned? Does he not certainly speak for our sake? It was written for our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of sharing in the crop.
1 Corinthians 9:9-‬10 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/1co.9.9-10.ESV

When we read this law in the OT  we think it means exactly what it says but Paul puts an entirely different meaning on it so it begs the question how should we interpret the law.

Hi

But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them and shut the door. And they struck with blindness the men who were at the entrance of the house, both small and great, so that they wore themselves out groping for the door.
Genesis 19:10-‬11 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.19.10-11.ESV

The angels brought the righteous man into safety through the door in to the house this reminds us of what was to happen many years later.
Jesus is the door through which we enter into the safety of his body this was made possible through his great sacrifice but Israel priesthood were blinded to the truth and as a result Israel as a nation as a nation ceased to be in 70 AD.
