In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, these kings made war with Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). And all these joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea). Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled. In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim, and the Horites in their hill country of Seir as far as El-paran on the border of the wilderness. Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh) and defeated all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who were dwelling in Hazazon-tamar. Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out, and they joined battle in the Valley of Siddim with Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar, four kings against five. Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them, and the rest fled to the hill country. So the enemy took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. They also took Lot, the son of Abram?s brother, who was dwelling in Sodom, and his possessions, and went their way.

So here we have one of those sections that are very difficult to understand names and places I can't pronounce but I am sure its there for a purpose may be its a bit like the world today with all nations fighting and squabbling over trivia instead of working together to improve everyone's lot.
We will have to wait for the return of our Lord to set up his kingdom then everything will be put right.

Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and of Aner. These were allies of Abram. When Abram heard that his kinsman had been taken captive, he led forth his trained men, born in his house, 318 of them, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, north of Damascus. Then he brought back all the possessions, and also brought back his kinsman Lot with his possessions, and the women and the people.
Genesis 14:13-‬16 ESV

Here we see Abram going out after the kings to retrieve  what they had taken and to rescue Lot.
I don't think 318 men is a lot against the above kings but with God on your side you would not need many.
Interesting that Abram refused to take any of the spoils he had faith that God would provide for all his needs.
Abram is the man of faith and an example to us all so let us emulate that faith to rely on God to do whats best for us.

Hi

After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King?s Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) And he blessed him and said, ?Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!? And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Genesis 14:17-‬20 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.14.17-20.ESV

This Melchizedek is a mysterious character there is very little said about him in the bible a few words in Hebrews but its obvious that he was no ordenary man he was a priest most High without genealogy and eternal life  he resembles our Lord.
He brought out bread and wine reminds us of our Lord doing the same thing at the last supper which reminds us of the body and blood of Christ.
We also see it was God who gave Abram the victory just shows us what faith can do.

And the king of Sodom said to Abram, ?Give me the persons, but take the goods for yourself.? But Abram said to the king of Sodom, ?I have lifted my hand to the Lord, God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth, that I would not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that is yours, lest you should say, ?I have made Abram rich.? I will take nothing but what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me. Let Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share.?
Genesis 14:21-‬24 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.14.21-24.ESV

Again we see Abram's great faith he would rely totally on God and not take anything from men and this faith would be rewarded time and again and let us learn this lesson have faith in God he will fulfil every promise he ever made but it will be in his time not ours.

Hi

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ?Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.? But Abram said, ?O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?? And Abram said, ?Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.? And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: ?This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.? And he brought him outside and said, ?Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.? Then he said to him, ?So shall your offspring be.? And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
Genesis 15:1-‬6 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.15.1-6.ESV

Here we see God telling Abram he will protect him and reward him with great rewards Abram was worried that he had no heir but God assured Abram that he would have an heir of his own and his offspring would be as the stars of heaven and today we can see that this promise has been fulfilled.
We olso see that because Abram believed God it was credited to him as righteousness so let us learn our lesson from this we must believe God and everything he has said.

But he said, ?O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?? He said to him, ?Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.? And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half. And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.

Well I have no Idea what these sacrifice animals represent if they represent anything or why God would require blood sacrifice unless it  was to mirror the blood of his Son Jesus Christ.
Or it required blood to ratify the covenants That God would make with man.

As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. Then the Lord said to Abram, ?Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.
Genesis 15:12-‬14 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.15.12-14.ESV

Is this deep sleep a form of death we are told in the NT that death is a form of sleep is so that Abram could become spiritual so that he could enter the presence of God.
God proceeds to tell Abram what would happen to his descendants and we know that these things did happen that his descendants who became Israel were in Egypt for 400 years then God brought them out this will mirror what will happen in the future when our Lord takes us out of this world and leads us into the new heaven and earth which God will create.
Let us pray earnestly that this will happen soon.

Love and Peace

Hi

As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.? When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, ?To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.?
Genesis 15:15-‬21 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.15.15-21.ESV

Here God promises Abram he would go to his grave in peace and that his descendants would inherit the land but up to now it has been a very bumpy ride for Israel through their idol worship and disobedience but even today they are dack in their own land but I don't think its as big as what God has promised.
Not sure what the fire pot and flaming torch represent maybe its to do with God being a consuming fire the pot God the Father the torch Jesus Christ.
Maybe the animals sacrificed represent Israel who would be sacrificed for the good of the world as our Lord was.

Love and Peace
