Hi
The beginning

1  Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2  And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

4  So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5  And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came

Here we have the call of Abram it must have been a very difficult decision to leave everything and go to a foreign land reminds that as Christians we are to leave our old life and be reborn into a new life in Christ.
And we see that all the families of the earth would be blessed through Abram and this prophecy has come true because Of Abram and his descendants we have Christ the seed of Abram.

Love and Peace

Hi
Next section

Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, ?To your offspring I will give this land.? So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord. And Abram journeyed on, still going toward the Negeb.
Genesis 12:6-‬9 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.12.6-9.ESV

Here we see Abram with all his family and possessions going through the land of Canaan which Israel was to posses many years later.
He builds an altar to the God who had spoken to him and calls upon him and worshiped him but Abram could find no rest so he continued on his journey.
Can remind us of our journey looking for the paradise of God his Sabbath rest which we can enter into.

Hi
Next

Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land.
Genesis 12:10 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.12.10.ESV

This same thing was to happen to Israel many years later and is also echoed with Christianity when our Lord sent his Apostles into the gentile nations.
What we see here is expansion or growth if you like bit like a baby being born begins with one egg impregnated by God that steadily grows until it is born and the baby thats born is Israel

When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.
Hosea 11:1 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/hos.11.1.ESV

and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, ?Out of Egypt I called my son.?
Matthew 2:15 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.2.15.ESV

As we can see these verses apply both to Israel and Christ but we have a long way to go before before we get to the birth of Israel.

Hi
Next

This next section is not easy to understand.

Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, ?I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ?This is his wife.? Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.? When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh?s house. And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels. But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram?s wife. So Pharaoh called Abram and said, ?What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? Why did you say, ?She is my sister,? so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go.? And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.
Genesis 12:10-‬20 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.12.10-20.ESV

So Abram goes up into Egypt because of a famine as Israel was to do years later but why did Abram say Sarai was his sister was it just to save his life and was Sarai so beautiful I mean she must have been getting on a bit.
Was it another mirror image in the song of Solomon we read

How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice!
Song of Solomon 4:10 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/sng.4.10.ESV

I always think of the Song of Solomon as Christ speaking to his church his bride and she was created by God out of Christ so they both had the same Father so were brother and sister.
So looking at the big picture Abram going into Egypt with Sarai mirrors Christ sending his church into the world.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
1 Corinthians 13:12 ESV

Hi
Next

So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb. Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place where he had made an altar at the first. And there Abram called upon the name of the Lord.
Genesis 13:1-‬4 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.13.1-4.ESV

So Abram returns from Egypt with great wealth reminds of Israel and our Lord coming out of Egypt hear we see the expansion the same story being played out on a larger scale.
Abram returns to Bethel from were he began but there was not enough for him and Lot so they decide to part can this be a mirror image of what was to happen between the Jews and the Christians thousands of years later.

Hi
Next

And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram?s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot?s livestock. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were dwelling in the land.
Genesis 13:5-‬7 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.13.5-7.ESV

Can we see this played out in later history we know that Abram is the foundation of Israel  and Lot is related to him and we know that Christ is the seed of Abram.
So dose the herds men of Abram and Lot represent the the Jewish priesthood and the apostles and decipels of our Lord.
What I'm trying to say is there a lot more to the OT stories than just the face value
Its all about creation and expansion always growing to the end result Jesus Christ the last Adam man in the image of God.

Love and Peace

Hi

Then Abram said to Lot, ?Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are kinsmen. Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right, or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left.? And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom. Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.
Genesis 13:8-‬13 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.13.8-13.ESV

So Abram and Lot part company dose this mirror the bigger picture when the Jews and Christians were to part company many years later what is important was there was not to be any animosity between Abram and Lots herds men and likewise there should be no animosity between the Jews and the Christians
And as Lot was to go into a place were there were great sinners against the Lord so the Christians were to go into the world were there were great sinners against God.

Hi
Next

The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, ?Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.? So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.
Genesis 13:14-‬18 ESV
https://bible.com/bible/59/gen.13.14-18.ESV

Here God shows Abram the land he would give him and all his descendants for ever but of course there were periods when they would not possess the land but God is always true to his promises and now we see Israel back in its own land of course this is only the beginning Ibelieve Israel with all those who belong to Christ will inherit the whole garden of the Lord planet earth.

And considering whats happening in the world to day and what God has to say about it

shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Thats certainly happening today and the onlyone who can put it right is God

Love and Peace
Dave
