The paper masks seem a bit flimsy but they probably do help to some extent.

There are stronger ones that can be ordered online and  others can be made from materials, at home. Especially covering fabrics with cotton because that helps you to breath more easily.
I use a homemade mask for the buses and wear gloves, and for traveling into the centre of the town.

The mask has filters. Two  Squares made from cotton and attached inside with poppers. Then soak in lemon juice and water overnight after use and use the other one.

Are they of any benefit  ?

If you are carrying the virus (which any one of us may be, without knowing it), they reduce the risk of passing it on to others.
"Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble." (Proverbs 28:14)
