Hi
Next

Mat 17:25  He said, ?Yes.? And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, ?What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others??
Mat 17:26  And when he said, ?From others,? Jesus said to him, ?Then the sons are free.
Mat 17:27  However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.?

I think what Jesus is teaching here is obey the law of the land be a good citizen do not break the laws of the Land we live in the only exception to this is if the law of the land breaks the law of God then we keep the law of God which is the law of Love.

I have often wondered is taking up arms and going to war breaking Gods law.

Hi
Our Lord has much to say in the next section I will take a little at a time it's very important information.

.    1  At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2  And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3  And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven

It seems the disciples had not learned much it seems they wanted to know who would be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven would it be them.
Our Lord brings forth a your child and tells them they have to become like a small child in other words be born again of course this applies to us all we need to humble ourselves like little children as our Lord did he gave up the glory of heaven and became flesh and took the humiliation of death on the cross for our sake.

So the answer to the disciples question is Jesus he is the greatest in heaven apart from the Father of course.

So we need to learn from him to humble ourselves before others to love to forgive to turn the other cheek not an easy task in today's world.

Hi
Moving on

.         5  And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6  But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea

I think the little child here is the new convert who has jest been baptized and been reborn those who are already in Christ should welcome him or her with open arms and love.
But if we refuse to acknowledge them and accept them as children in Christ then the consequences will be dire.
There is a great danger here with all the different denominations who may be judging one another we need to be very careful of rejecting someone Christ has accepted let us judge no one and leave it to the righteous judge.

Hi
Next verse

Mat 18:7  ?Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes!

here we see that the temptation to sin is necessary this is why God planted the tree of Knowledge of good and evil we must choose the good we must reject the evil of our own free will not only choose the good but also love the good God is Good.
The law tells us what sin is so we have no excuse when we break the law we sin but when we Love as God wants us to Love then we comply with the whole law.
so let us love as we should.

Hi
Moving on

.  8  Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

9  And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire

These are harsh words from our Lord but what I think he is saying is what ever causes us to sin get rid of it there is so much in the world of today to lead us astray there is temptation everywhere we turn satan is doing everything in his power to  tempt us away from from God.
We have to resist all evil as our Lord puts it we must cut it of and throw it away may not make us very popular but we don't want to be popular we want to be saved.

Hi
Moving on

.    10  Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven

The little ones here are the new converts  in the Lord the new born through baptism and like small children they need help from the mature  believers the mature believers should not put them down but love them and help them in love and remember we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
I think a person can remain a child in Christ all their lives not going on to maturity so let us show patience not forgetting the have there guardian angels watching over them.

Hi
Next section

.    11  For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

12  How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

13  And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

14  Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish

In the first place our Lord came to save Israel who had gone astray in many ways we only have to read the OT to see this the gospel was to be preached to Israel first.
The sheep in this parable is Israel they had been led astray by the priesthood many of the ordinary people listened to the gospel and turned to Jesus but the priesthood refused to listen consequently Israel ceased to be a nation in 70 AD Israel died.
But our Lord has said all Israel will be saved and we wait  For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost and all Israel will be saved not forgetting we have been grafted into the tree of Israel.

Love and peace

Hi
Moving on

.     15  Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

16  But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

17  And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican

In the first place Christ is speaking to the disciples but I think it can apply to all those who are members of the church the body of Christ.
What our Lord is saying if there is any conflict between brothers or sisters in Christ we should resolve it within the church with love we should humble ourselves and forgive one another preferably between the two who have the conflict.
If this is not possible they can bring in other to help and eventually the church it should be resolved with in the church.
I think all our conflicts should be resolved in love we must learn to forgive one another and love one another.

Love and peace
Dave
